Software Update???

[AC Question]

I have a Samsung S6 Edge and the other day an alert came up at the top of my home page saying that I needed to install a software update, this update would be to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The thing is I am very very scared of doing this update because in the past on previous phones, when I have installed a software update, I have found that after the update has been done, I have lost some of my data, i.e. music, photos, contacts etc.....and as I have a lot of things on my phone from my late husband like messages and photos, hence the reason why I am scared of doing it. I have backed up my phone on the phone itself, but you cant back up music or photo's......but what I would like to know is, would I lose anything if I did the update?

Im sorry but I am not techno minded in any way shape of form

The answer is no when is a software update. The only possible way to wipe your data at all if you factory reset the phone.

It will... If the software update is from the manufacturer. Also, it can mess up your OS... Having a rooted phone plus software upgrade can be a lethal combination.
