Software Updates (Lack there of)

Not without using Root package disabler and an adb command. That was the only way I could disable it.

Its pretty straight forward though and also allows you to disable other bloat at the same time.
Thanks, was going to try the open euro version that has zero carrier bloat. Next step will be adb if that doesn't work. I want to disable Quickmemo and smart doctor. I don't need them and they don't need to be eating my battery for no reason.

My US997 just downloaded version US99713a 640.40MB. "Phone usability and function has been further improved", whatever that means. Will update tomorrow on what's new, that's not a small download so hopefully more than only a security update.

That's great to hear. I just ordered a US997 unlocked G6 and I'll have it on Wednesday. Can't wait!

i have a tmo g6 and do not have that update.

I have a Verizon G6 and checked for updates 3 times thoughout the night and 2 today. no update. would be nice to know what carriers are getting them and when. i refreshed my google search results several times a day for the last 2 months hoping there would be updates in the news.

US997 here, downloading that 640 meg thing now. Considering the size, must be a hefty upgrade. Hope it don't screw anything up.

To be honest I've been using the update for a good few days now and haven't notice any differences whatsoever.

This is one big yawner of an upgrade. The security patch date is June 1 and uh it's mid July duh. Android version is still 7.0. Maybe they'll go straight to 8.0 next time.

The msg box at the end of the upgrade says:

"Update summary :

Phone usability and functionality has been further improved."

Wow if that is not the most ambiguous statement ever.
It didn't screw anything up but it didn't do much of anything. But hey I got an "upgrade"

I am using AT&T SIM in my US997. So far the only thing I noticed with the June security update is that over past two days battery life is significantly different -- about 15-20% less screen on time.

honestly, if security updates are important to have...you need to get a pixel or a blackberry. those are the only two that have been getting the updates consistantly

Or a Nexus (previous Google phone before the Pixel line). I have a Nexus 6P (for about another week) and I've gotten monthly updates (except for 1) since I got it 16 months ago.

Somebody please answer this:

What is so great in 7.1 that I'm missing out on my s8? btw we get software updates quite often in the Sammy camp since the note7 fiasco.

Here in the UK, we have EE, which merged TMob and Orange.. and it is widely known that EE are the worst carrier for updates.. they take MONTHS, so it could be that..

In UK.. the update cycle is normally.. Vodafone, O2, unlocked, 3, EE..
