I have tried everything to get lg mobile phone tools to work, two computers and three OS's

This is not a factory cable, but one from a cricket wireless travel charger pack.

Could this be the problem?

Perhaps the travel charger cable is made cheaply and has fewer internal wires negating it from being able to be recognized by the computer via usb?

I am getting the factory cable today from the guy who the phone belonged to, I hope this works I am at the end of my rope on this one.

I had a different Android phone before the Optimus, and the only cable that would work for rooting stuff was the factory cable.

It is possible that is your problem.

Sometimes travel charge cables don't have the data pins connected since they are only meant for charging.

im going to get so drunk if it turns up being the fking data cable...

over 30 hours working on this thing for it to be a layer one problem....

FML if it is... but I'll be able to update then load a rom.

QUESTION:What else has to be done after I update and load a ROM, before I can take it in to have the ESN swapped with my current phone and plan upgraded?

There is something about user profile and a PRL file..

Sprint phone toCricket Wireless btw

wow all this crapola and it was the cable.......... got the original LG cable and it works... picked it up in a snap!
