Hello, I want to purchase the Pixel XL, but the black version is still out of stock, so I'm left resorted to the Verizon model from Best Buy in order to take advantage of that 325$ promo. The question I have is, are all Verizon Pixel's come unlocked out of the box? Does Google send out the updates? Whats the catch if I use the Verizon model if it does work on Tmobile?

Thanks

Re: VZW Pixel on Tmobile?

It is the same phone as from Google. It will work on T-Mobile with all the features (WiFi calling, Band 12, VoLTE, etc.) just like the Google Store one would :).

The pixel bought from verizon will not update without a verizon sim in. I'm returning mine tomorrow because of this. I made a quick video to show...

I have a VZW Pixel XL and have never used a Verizon sim(except initial bootup) and I use T-Mobile. I received the update without problem using a T-Mobile sim.

Hmm. Mine clearly won't. I wonder did you complete any updates, setup or activation with the verizon sim in before you took it out? I removed the verizon sim before I even powered my phone on, so it never set up with the verizon sim at all, never downloaded the 3 verizon apps, etc.

I have 2 Pixel XL's from Best Buy, running on T-mo.

No problems whatsoever.

I did have to swing by the t-mo store and get new sims as the one from our old phones didn't fit.

Put them in, powered it up, did the update moved my data and (as emirl says) BAM. . Works without a hitch.

We have gotten the November update no problem, running on WiFi calling when at home and switching to cell when we leave. Even being on a call it switches without dropping!

Overall a better experience than the last phones I bought from T-mo

the verizon pixel won't update without a VERIZON sim, unless mine is defective. Returned it earlier today because no matter what I tried it would not update without the verizon sim.

Im going through the same thing with mine. Im going to have to side load the OTA each time it seems. I've got a Verizon unit purchased from BB and using it on ATT.

I got mine from Best Buy as well. I don't understand how some people are getting the updates without a verizon sim in.

By the way, how do you plan on sideloading? Can you do that without unlocking the bootloader?

Verizon had an out of the box update to improve wifi connectivity. I had the same update and it would fail each time I tried to install it. I called Google and was passed over to Verizon support. They couldn't figure out why it wouldn't install. Ended up not being an issue, I moved the phone over to Sprint and received the latest update the day it came out without issue. The phone has been working perfectly on Sprint now for over a month.

I think the update you are seeing with the Verizon sim card is the Verizon only update.

I am beginning to think that you are correct in that it's a Verizon only update. Only time will tell as google release OS updates across the board. I still worry if Verizon is actually handling OS updates then how will it make it the the Verizon device if no Verizon sim is installed.
