Okay so let me get this right...
Steps:
1. HTC Method for unlocking bootloader
2. Boot into recovery
3. Flash CleanROM to the phone
4. Boot normally
5. Install and open Flash Image GUI
6. Select CleanRom when selecting file
Then I have no idea. I don't even know if this is the correct order.
I tried yesterday and managed to install the CleanRom + Flash Image GUI and not brick the phone but no luck in tethering, any help is appreciated :).

Re: [Help]Wifi Tether Hboot1.5?

Did Flash GUI flash the kernel (boot.img)?

Flash GUI had no problems at all I was just really unsure what to do within the app. Up until step 6 is correct right? If so what do I do afterwards?

Re: [Help]Wifi Tether Hboot1.5?

Go into the settings for the wifi tether app and enable the routing fix and mss clamping.

I did. After those 6 steps and no avail.

I needed to do something in Flash GUI to fix the kernal in CleanROM to have the option for correct tethering right?

Re: [Help]Wifi Tether Hboot1.5?

Yes, sounds like you need to flash the kernel.

So after step 5, what do I do? Sorry, I'm not used to HTC, I do really appreciate all your help :).

In the attachment, I add the boot.img file to the sd card and just open that in Image GUI, and recover?

Re: [Help]Wifi Tether Hboot1.5?

All you have to do to get wifi and 4G on a custom ROM is flash the kernel that goes with that ROM.
If you use Flash GUI it makes it pretty simple.
Download Flash GUI from the market (it is well worth the $.99 for 1.5 users)
Download the ROM you want to flash.
Place the ROM on the root of your SD card.
Open Flash GUI
Select the option to flash kernel. It will scan for any boot.img on your Sd card.
Flash the kernel
Now boot into recovery (assuming you have flashed a custom recovery)
Wipe Cache, Dalvik cache, and factory reset (you are going to lose all data on your phone)
Install zip of ROM
Reboot and enjoy.[/url]

Okay. So because I used CleanROM, I open the zip on my computer and put the boot.img file on my sd card, then open Flash GUI, flash it with that boot.img, and continue on with your steps in recovery mode?
So instead of installing CleanROM first I should have flashed the boot.img and then recov, clear data and install zip. Right?

Re: [Help]Wifi Tether Hboot1.5?

Sorry, I was out and about. Most people flash the kernel first, then flash the ROM.

Yeah I didn't know that when I was first starting lol. I'll try it when I get the phone, for it in my car and my wife took it. Thank you man and if I have anymore questions is it alright if I message you?

Re: [Help]Wifi Tether Hboot1.5?

Of course. I will be out being a dad most of the evening, but I will be back later to check. It's best to play it out in the forums so others can have something to reference in case they come across the same issue. It is always good to build the knowledge base.

Alright cool :). When I'm done I'll try and post a detailed explanation in the OP for someone that comes along.

Re: [Help]Wifi Tether Hboot1.5?

Sorry for my ignorance here... please keep flaming to a minimum even though I may deserve it.

I thought that WiFi Tether just needed root, not a particular ROM or Kernel. Currently I have hboot 1.4, rooted with Revolutionary, CleanROM 2.9, and my kernel is well... whatever that gives you (2.6.35.13_mKernel_1.3 if that means anything).

WiFi tether is working fine (using it right now), but my phone is dying and I'll probably need a warranty replacement which will likely come with hboot 1.5. Are you saying I can't just root via the HTC method, install a custom recovery (TWRP?), then flash CleanROM? Only certain combinations of kernels and ROMs will allow WiFi Tether to work?

i would say all custom roms will and do support wifi tether.. its the nature of the game....lol

By the way what is wrong with your phone? dont get it replaced just have it looked at and worked on, Maybe you can find someone on one of the forums to help you out

Yeah and that's why I was surprised by all the talk about which kernel or ROM to use.

The accelerometers and magnetic compass are kaputt. The compass isn't that important, but it's a pain to have to switch from landscape to portrait manually every time I rotate the phone... if you're in this situation, a little $1.50 program called "Orientation Control" works great.
