Usually you can keep an app notification from waking the screen by changing a notification category setting for Lock Screen to "do not show notifications." In this case, you can still hear the notification sound and feel the vibration, but the notification will not turn on the screen.
But since Android 12, many apps now wake the screen no matter what I change in notification settings, globally or per app. I don't want notifications to wake my screen because then buttons start getting pressed in my pocket, and I don't use the accidental touch setting because when I'm actually using my phone it will think it's in my pocket and then show a prompt getting in the way of me using the phone. In general Android 12 has been very buggy on the s10e and I regret updating.
