My wife and I are the last non iPhone holdouts in each of our families. She doesn't like change nor wants to learn ios/their ecosystem. I just love android.

I'm the same with family, work and probably even at my gym haaaa?!?! At any family gatherings I'm the one and only 1 out of 20, maybe even 30 people who doesn't have an iPhone.

That ratio is like 1 to 40 at work and God knows what for is when I'm at the gym

Tell me another consumer product has that kind of dominance in it's industry?

Apple didn't waste time building their ecosystem, having all their devices communicate with each other. You have to give apple credit, they were the leaders on this one. If you have apple products, they communicate with each other and your friends devices and you just stay with what you know and works as you are used to.

Samsung and Google are finally getting to this point, but it might be too late or a long up hill battle to get apple users to switch not to mention the cost of doing that.

It's all word of mouth and Apple's relentless advertising! It has nothing to do with which platform is superior. We all know that Android is superior in more ways than iOS is superior over Android. The vast, vast majority of iOS users are NOT tech savvy at all. They just buy what their friends, family, and predecessors buy!
Apple is iOS, and iOS is Apple! Android is Samsung, OnePlus, Pixel, and on, and on, and on! I truly believe that Google is as well known as Apple...at least here in the USA, and that if Google would advertise as much as Apple does, then in time the trends would shift. YMMV

I think Google also needs to do something with RCS. I think they need to force RCS messaging on Android phones so they all can communicate the same between every Android phone like apple iPhone communicate the same between all iPhones. Android phones have so many texting apps and several companies making Android phones.. The texting app between all of them need to be the same RCS technology.. Maybe at least require all texting apps to skin off Google messages RCS engine. Just thinking out loud. It's obvious apple is winning because of their ecosystem and their iMessage being standard is a huge benefit for iPhone users.

Oh I give Apple credit where credit is due. They've done an amazing job in being so dominant in the tech industry.

I just hate it when I'm with friends or family and they keep asking why haven't I switched to an iPhone ummmm yet??? I guess being the black sheep has its benefits. Don't ask

At this point with Android, Google could and should basically call all the shots. What would Samsung do otherwise? I think we are long past the days of any phone manufacturers attempting proprietary software.

Samsung even realized that in order to keep up with Google's introduction into the smartwatch world they had better adapt and accept WearOS as the uniform operating system, especially since it can integrate much better into the Android ecosystem than Tizen.

Now, that said, Google's first attempt at the Pixel Watch was somewhat of a flop, but (at least in my opinion) that's only because they opted to make such a small size.

Remember though, they definitely don't have a monopoly.

That they can't do that. They and Apple, Microsoft are in trouble in the EU for trying. All they can do is make the best products possible and have people want to switch.

Apple knows it cannot let go of its ecosystem...at all!
If Apple allowed other OEM's to use its OS then the playing field would surely become far more level! Can you imagine being able to buy a Samsung, Pixel, OnePlus, or Moto phone and having a choice between Android, or iOS installed? I wonder what that would do to the market? I think, that in relatively short order, we would see which Operating System is truly the best!

What Apple managed to do is not only engineer the hell out of devices, but to also permeate them into a social status. Brilliant strategy, when you think about it.

My kid is always talking trash about my Android devices, even though when I challenge her to provide an example of why my phone is somehow not up to snuff with her iPhone, she throws something out there that is completely false. I then prove to her that my phone is capable of whatever it is she claimed otherwise, and then she just gets mad and walks off.

Apple has a stronghold on multiple generations now, which expands mostly from Gen X to whatever the current generation is (that is what my sassy daughter would be).

Also, as much as I hate Apple, that might actually be the push to iPhone for me. I simply do not trust Google to have full control over Android without OEMs being able to counterbalance and fix their poor decisions and broken software.

That's so funny because both my kids are the exact same way with the trash talking, plus I get the same crap from my husband so I'm literally being ganged up on screw them!

They have a 58% market share in the US, which is pretty dominant, but only a 30% market share worldwide.

They do have quite a hold on us Americans for some reason though... it must be some kind of Black Magic 😜

Keep in mind There are more Android (mostly Samsung) users Worldwide. Apple only has the majority in the US. It is a slim majority. Unfortunately, many Americans have gotten, "fat, dumb, and lazy." We expect everything to be done for us. It's a First World Problem.
