So I know many on here have been wondering what happens to your SIM card if you switch between a 4G and 3G device, and I got a little clarification this evening.
In the past, its been assumed (and confirmed by VZW employees) that when you switch your SIM card will be retired and you'll have to get a new one. However, as it actually turns out, that's not the case. I switched from my Bolt to a Droid X tonight, and the online activation process ends with a screen that states 'Your SIM will be deactivated after 90 days. Click to confirm you would like to activate this device'.
(Note: This is NOT the case if you port out, however. Since you are actually closing your account with Verizon when you port, the SIM is retired as soon as that happens. )
So there you have it. If you change frequently, you should be good to change back to your 4G device without needing a new SIM.
