Some ways to diagnose battery drain issues?

gdbjr, I hear you man. My battery use just feels so inconsistent, across both of the One X units that I have tried. Some days it works great, some days it is absolutely atrocious.

This is really frustrating, battery life is one of the most important factors for a mobile device. It doesn't have to be superb, but it has to be relatively consistent, so you know when to recharge, etc.

I am really considering returning the phone and just going back to my iPhone 3GS, to wait for iOS6 and iPhone 5. I love the flexibility of Android, but these battery issues are a dealbreaker, and I hear that this occurs on other Android-running hardware as well with "rogue processes" draining down the battery.

I have switched back to my S2, which is the best android phone I have ever used. I wanna say it is even better then my iPhone 4s. I haven't decided if I am going to try to get another One X or wait to see if I can trade it for a S3 next week. If I try another HOX, I will make sure it is one of the HT25 models as they have identified issues with the HT23 (I have) and the HT24. Desicisons, decisions....

I'm thinking of getting a One X this week. What's the difference in those models? I'd be on Rogers in Canada. Similar to AT&T.

That I don't know. I think it is just a part number more then a model number. But I am not sure how that works across different carriers. I quick look over on XDA didn't help as HT23 and HT24 were all across Europe. But if i was buying a new one, I would avoid those models as it is a hardware defect.

I think that we just need to wait for the next update to arrive from HTC HQ.

They must have been listening to people about the fact the 5th core isn't helping when it comes to battery life.

For them to have a smaller battery that normal, they were clearly confident that the 5th core was going to do the job so I think they will come up with a fix.

Can anyone with a North American AT&T or Rogers Qualcom Snapdragon S4 version of the device chime in? It sounds like this might be an issue with the International Tegra3 version only.

I have the HT25 model, on AT&T. My device has battery issues - sometimes I experience rapid battery drain, sometimes I just have very inconsistent battery usage (earlier today lost 50% in 30 mins of screentime doing e-mail), and sometimes it works great. This is my second unit, I had similar issues with the first - I wonder if I should try a non-stock ROM.

I don't know if this problem still exists for others but i recently got this phone from att and returned one handset already due to heating and battery issues, and yesterday night my new handset died similar to everyone else's experience in this thread. I've been to some other threads and it seems to be happening in the morning specifically for some people which leads us to think its a software issue. My phone was charged fully so i took it off the charger and let it idle overnight and from 100% to 0% in 8 hours i have the screenshots but can't post them right now, thinking of just spending another 100 dollars and going for the s3 (but i really can't spend another $100). I even took the precaution of when i first got it, let the battery drain charged it fully for 8 hours turned it off charged it for an hour turned it on for 2 minutes and charged it for an hour (someone on this forum on another thread suggested this). And it was fine during the day, got really good battery life wifi all day listening to music browsing here and there at the end of the day i had 30% left, but then yeah.

I have noticed that my wifes HOX doesn't do this and the only difference i can think of currently is that i always take the software update from att (which i would presume is from htc), it fixes the whole menu button taking up the bottom of the screen which is why i do the update but now i'm wondering if thats the issue, other than that she has the black one and i have the white one, idk. maybe someone can confirm or deny that this may be the issue

I originally had this same problem, the phone would literally losing 6% /hr doing nothing, and dropped 30% overnight. Most recently, I starting a combo of disabling both mobile data and wifi when not in use. I use the power widget to control that. The battery doesn't drain even 1% overnight.

PS. it is not recommended for bump charging Li-Ion battery. Once in a while, you may want to turn off the phone after fully charged, and charge it at off state for 15 minutes to calibrate the system.

The Li-ion battery's longevity are extended by reducing its time spent at 100%, and by charging it before draining too low. (information are from batteryuniversity.com)

The menu on the bottom thing can be adjusted in HTC settings, about what action the multi-window button should do.

Does a factory data reset void your warranty if you are on a contract with a carrier? I am guessing the factory reset will take the phone to its initial state, which should include the carrier build, but I want to make sure.

Nope, it does not void warranty - it just wipes the data and settings on the phone and puts it back into its initial state.
