How does everyone like the sound quality and volume of their Pixel, more specifically the XL ( idk if that matters which version)

XL and Pixel have the same speaker, I assume you are asking about this?

I am coming from the HTC M9 which was generally regarded as having very good front facing speakers and to be honest this difference is minor. Sure I would have like front facing speakers however it is a non issue to me. The speaker on the Pixel is quite loud and clear at high volumes and does about as much as I could expect from a phone.

Also worth mentioning at full volume using the same youtube link the pixel is louder vs the M9. I would say the M9 "may" have slightly better sound quality but its close.

Ahh sorry I'm talking about the sound quality of when you have Bluetooth headphones on more specifically. I was interested in knowing the speaker quality as well.

Coming from Nexus 6P I can tell you the speaker on the XL is not as good.

I've never had a bottom speaker phone for a long time, had the 6P, had a Droid Turbo before that, then the Droid before that ... So I've always had front facing speakers.

I've already noticed that if you cover the speaker with your pinky, as I hold one handed and it's a natural spot for a pinky to sit, you really distort sound from playback ... It's not just muffle it's an odd distortion.

If you don't cover the speaker accidentally, it's not that bad, but not nearly as loud as 6P but it is more crisp and clean. Putting Google Play equalizer on doesn't lower the volume either, like it did on 6P, it actually enhanced the sound but you can't do bass boost or surround since it's not a stereo speaker.

Keeping the volume at max also doesn't distort sound like it does on other phones.

Bottom line ... It's not the best, prefer front facing, prefer dual stereo speakers for surround sound, but it's quality is better than most. The speaker is my biggest complaint right now.

Agreed coming from a 6p, I never miss the front speakers, but it's actually not too bad. Like a lot of reviews said, it is loud and clear. Still hoping Google will bring the front speakers back next year.

I use bluetooth headphones with my Pixel Xl, the LG HBS750. They sound the same as they do on my Note 4. I believe this is because with Bluetooth, you aren't using the phone's DAC. From what I read, the headphones have their own DAC that converts the sound from Digital to Analog. The phone is just passing Digital to Digital over bluetooth.

So I think you can expect the same bluetooth sound that you're experiencing with your current phone.
