Every time I listen to music from the radio or spotify while my phone is connected, the sound dips. I don't have the app Waze, which I know has been a problem. I've change the cable but it keeps happening, can't anyone help

Might be notifications coming through causing the sound to dip. That's how mine was on my note 9.

So youre listening using a wired headset/headphone. But when listening to the radio or spotify the sound dips as if there is a notification?

my phone is plugged into my car, I'm using Android Auto, car radio works ok without my phone plugged in. I know I've since reports about the app Waze causing sound problems but I don't have it on my phone

I've had that problem before, it could be interference. Have you tried a noise-canceling aux(iliary) cable or filter such as this one:
