What version OS do you have on your phone? If it's a current version of Jelly Bean you can just long-press on the notification that appears and get information on which app is causing these notifications.

I dont think it's spyware... but maybe just spam/advertising... cost of the 'free' apps.

Thank you, it really worked. It was a YouTube MP3 converter that was the problem!
