I don't want this to turn into a purse swinging thread just by complaining about the glorious GNex, but since having this phone since launch day, I am pretty unhappy with the speaker/volume quality and level.

I only have an iphone 4 to test against the GNex, but loudness and especially clarity seem much better on the iphone both for playing music and ringtones.

Has anybody had a chance to do a side by side test of ringers/notifications/music/youtube of the GNex against the rezound, razr and any other verizon phones?

I'm curious to hear how the speaker really stacks up. There are a few other things I can live with, but missing calls and not being able to use the phone as a music player without headphones is a biggie for me.

I can confirm that too about the Razr speaker. Way louder but, the quality was about the same. There is a thread about how to get the volume louder.

using the speaker for standalone music listening in a quiet environment is allright....i can use it at my desk at work fine.. of course quality and volume are for crap.....but i havent heard a phone speaker yet that sounds "good", and the og droid had a real loud speaker and it still was nt that loud......so.....i guess what im saying is the entire idea of listening to music through a phones speaker is a lesson in horrible sound no matter what phone you have. As far as missing calls i hear the ring tone just fine.....could it be a bit louder....sure....but it does the trick

I can only speak for the nexus but thought it was pretty weak until I listened to a voice mail on speaker and it was so loud I had to turn it down. The sepaker is definately up to par so i'm hoping for an up date to bring the other things into audio goodness.
