Spell check/autocorrect on Samsung Notes on my Galaxy s9+ not working

I've recently upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy s9+ from a Galaxy S7 and I've noticed that the stock note pad, Samsung Notes, doesn't autocorrect my writing like my previous note pad did. I do lots of writing so this is very annoying. I've checked to make sure that spell check is enabled in my settings. Has anyone else had this problem? Does the new stock Samsung note pad just not have autocorrect capabilities? That seems like it would be a huge oversight..
