Spots on Screen

This morning I was cleaning my screen and noticed 3 splotches. I wiped then with my micro fiber cloth, but they won't go away. Had anyone else has this happen? I'm really upset. I have no scratches and I've never had a screen issue before. Honestly it looks like there oleophobic costing might have just come if in the areas.

I'll have to get home to get photos once I get home. I know I should have had a screen protector, but I've never used one. I've been using smartphones and there PDA cousins for a long time now. I've never scratched a screen or had this happen.

I'm nervous about calling T-Mobile. I don't want a refurbished unit. I also have heard bad things about screen replacement. The waterproof part of this phone is very important to me.

At this point a refurbished unit will probably be a return within 14 days.

Does sound like the oleophobic coating has worn. The splotches happen to be in area you are using most often right?? I guess another test would be a few drops of water on screen, you'll probably see how the area doesn't bead up like the rest.

If you really didn't want to part with your phone not wanting a refurb... maybe a protector at this point would hide the splotches. I have read you can buy and apply the oleophobic liquid for phone but not sure if it will give an even coat to hide... Maybe the Whitestone glass protector would be the best option where the liquid may be able to even out and cover the blotches while retaining a glass feel.

Keep in mind that the warranty may not cover wear to an oleophobic coating.

Yeah, I guess it could probably fall under "user induced" even though shouldn't wear that fast??

I've seen users request new keyboards because the letters have worn off the keys and they can't read them. Of course it's user induced... nail polish remover or hand lotion or some chemical on their fingers.

In this day of Covid, could be a person using super strength hand sanitizer from a local distillery pushing 120 proof on fingers basically dissolving the coating away. That sucks.

Correction... 130 proof. Glad I have a protector on my screen cause I use sanitizer pretty often where I work.

Funny, I was just mentioning this post to a coworker and how these sanitizers could be strong enough to possibly remove the coating and he tells me just the other day he was wiping his phone screen with wipes we have here... we have medical grade wipes with 55% alcohol... and he was just thinking that after wiping his phone that he was surprised that lite scratches he swore he had on his phone had gone away after using the wipes. Now it makes sense what happened to those scratches. I stick with wipes specifically for lenses with lower alcohol content.

True. Choose what you feel best for you. I use these. I just took a moment to read and says non alcohol. I toss a few in my backpack in case I need a wipe and for my iPad and laptop or my glasses. Even if it was alcohol or even needed to use the med-grade wipes I have access to, I'm really wiping my Spigen protector for the most part lol... and then lightly wipe the camera back.

My phone was replaced under warranty. More spots kept appearing. T-Mobile is actually taking it to their Samsung rep and asked if I would be willing to speak with her. I'm still not sure what happened.

Also, just in case it wasn't a screen defect, I am installing a Whitestone Dome today immediately after work. I hated that feeling of having my screen blemished. I still don't believe I did anything since I stay at home, don't use any cleaners on my screen, and only use a microfiber cloth, but you never know.

I'm nervous about this screen protector. I have never ever liked them. I'm super picky about them being bubble free and totally straight. if it's not, I will not be able to ignore it. So far, every protector I have tried has in some way effected my screen experience. We'll see. I'm going to trust the stellar reviews I hear from folks here.

Hopefully you have the Gen 2 version of the WSD (straight across the top)? Revised alignment tray and better glass then the original.

Mine is not straight across the top, so I guess mine isn't the second generation. I'm glad. I'm not comfortable with glass in front of my cameras. It just feels that a lot of R&D guess into camera lenses and the production of lenses quality glass. I don't want to put another glass in front of it. Although the difference would perhaps be small, I don't see how it would not effect light's entrance into the camera.

On to the good news. I had a perfect install and this screen protector is amazing. Not one bubble or imperfection. It's perfectly centered and perfectly straight. I'm a fan. It felt like there were a ton of steps, but if you follow them you will meet with success. I'm not any good at screen protectors and I got it on my first try.

I guess all is well that ends well. I got a new phone and I got a great protector on it this time around.

I must have misunderstood. I was picturing straight across the top to mean no camera cut out. I don't see any reference on their page for these generation differences. Do you know how we can tell? Can we order the newer model? I wonder if there are other differences.

Glad you got it on perfect. The second gen WSD does not cover the front camera.

Absolutely not. Neither the first or second gen cover the front camera.
