I've been using my lte as well as my old evo as a GPS twice a day for an hour each way for 10 months, and off and on for long periods before that and have had only a few issues with over heating. I find my phones GPS superior in a number of ways to a dedicated unit. Maps are always up to date, real time traffic, and it's always with me.

Thanks Brandito. Is your EVO navigating from on top of the dash (hotter because of the sun) or is down lower where the AC vents can help? I love my navigation as I am in a different city 40 weeks out of the year. I tried the car dock, but because of overheating, I moved my EVO LTE back down to the console so I could blow AC onto it.

I've used vent mounts and a suction mount on the windshield.

Most cars have defrosters for the windshield so really if you just switch your vents to the defroster you can cool your phone even on the dash. I suppose it depends on the vehicle but I'd imagine most will work as mine does.

Also helps if the phone is fully charged when you plug it in. It really heats up the most while charging, so if it has a good charge to start it usually won't overheat anyways. Again that's not going to always be the case because you aren't always going to have a charged phone at all times.

I've honestly just never had any real issues.

The disc that comes with the Mount must be placed on a flat surface and cleaned with the alcopad (included) before attaching. After placing the disc on the dash surface wait 24 hours for the 3M tape to "bond" and after that it should be very strong. However, as always anything on the dash that stays for months or years is likely to leave a mark when removed... Hope this helps?

So it's the same stupid approach as the car dock for the OG Evo. If you want to get sound out, and power in, you need two cables. Idiotic: USB is capable of carrying audio. The car dock should use the USB connection for both power and audio, and split it at the other end of the cable so you don't have multiple wire hanging from your windshield.

My old Palm OS Treo could do this. Why can't HTC figure it out 10 years later?

This looks pretty similar to the Evo 3D car dock. However, no more car docks for me. I had one for the Evo3D and some idiot broke into my car and caused over $2000 in paint damage just to steal an empty cell phone holder.

Guess they were looking for a small gps or something for a quick drug fix ;p. Whomever it was also broke into a nearby Porsche and got some gym clothes for their effort. There were also lots of BMWs and Mercedes in the parking garage, why did they pick my car, sigh, guess it was the shiny red color.

That's what worries me about having the car dock... :'(

I have had the dock for 2 or 3 days now and it's held up very nicely in the corner of my car. I don't think it's seen as easily in the corner.

I use my phone as a boost gauge for my car so it's not very helpful to have the car dock in the center.

The Sprint Car Dock for Evo 4G LTE comes with a round disc that can be mounted to the dashbord. The "trick" to get it to stick is to use an alcopad when putting it on the dash and then leave it to "bond" with the surface for 24 hours. This will ensure that when the suction mount is attached the disc has enough holding power. However, keep in mind that anything that is on top of your dash for months or years could leave a mark when removed.

As other users have pointed out most any dashboard "bean bag" will also work to hold the suction mount from the Car Dock. Since the Mount and the Dock is using a 17 mm ball joint, same as Garmin, there's plenty of other attachment options available, from fixed installed mounts to vent mounts. Hope this helps...

MHL outputs digital audio. The EVO 4G LTE has an MHL port. MHL does not carry analog audio. Your car needs analog audio. You would need a powered digital to analog converter to convert the MHL audio output for your vehicle and audio quality would probably suffer a lot.

Understand the technology before you call it idiotic. If it is that important to you, a Apt-X bluetooth dongle that plugs into your aux port of your car can be had for ~$30, so pay up or deal with the extra wire, modern phones will never output analog audio over USB.

I know this probably isn't the case, but do you have the "hand" nut, for lack of a better term, tightened down? Someone else posted something similar and it turns out they had not even had the nut on, just the threaded "reciever" part pushed over the ball. I have no issues with mine, but I would suspect you could try a small piece of tape wrapped on the ball to give it some more girth and friction and be able to tighten down the nut enough so there would be no movement?

I've had mine mounted on the dash for about a month now and it hasn't moved yet. I would make sure it's tightened enough.

I had this same problem until I looked and saw the threaded parts. Thought I might have missed a part and sure enough it was still in the box. No more falling forward.
