Sprint Nextel CFO Says Worst Of Revenue Declines Are Over

Sprint is also looking to its fourth-generation, or 4G, network, run by Clearwire Corp. (CLWR), as a growth engine. Brust said that Boston could see 4G by fall, although he added that the city would get it as late as the end of the year.

The carrier is looking to its Evo smartphone, the first 4G phone in the U.S., as another catalyst. The phone is slated to launch in early June, days before the believed launch date for the next Apple Inc. (AAPL) iPhone.

Brust said that the company has learned a lot from a year ago, when it launched the Palm Inc. (PALM) Pre as its flagship smartphone. He acknowledged that the phone struggled in the market.

"The Pre didn't work out as well as we hoped," he said.

Part of the issue was the lack of supply. Brust said that he doesn't see an inventory issue with the Evo.

When asked about the iPhone, Brust said "we'd love to have it." But he said he wasn't aware of the possibility of Sprint getting the iconic smartphone.

Hopefully this abundance of supply will not effect the fit and finish of the overall phone!!!

This jump on 4G will really put Sprint ahead if they do it right... It's a beautiful thing with the 4G "towers" being so much smaller and compact, one would think these things could go just about anywhere! Hopefully the walmart thing isn't just a pipe-dream.

Yeah it still makes me laugh when I hear about the Walmart deal but you have to admit it would make coverage soo much better. Lets hope the talks are going well especially after hearing about the Commen Cents Mobile deal going through.

I have to say its a little funny that Sprint always pits their phones against the iPhone to try and sway customers (and rightfully so) but anytime anyone mentions if Sprint would like the iPhone they are always like "YES PLEASE OH PLEASE!"

Sprint will sell any device there is that they know people will buy. Why would they limit themselves to a specific device?

If Sprint doesn't anticpate inventory issues for the Evo, then why aren't they advertising the device right NOW??? Perhaps they have not learned as much from the Pre's disappointment as Mr. Brust thinks they have.

I just hope they have inventory for the following week of launch when Iphoners come to the EVO after a disappointing IphoneHD revealing. This will be a crucial time for Sprint.

What is the walmart am i missing something??

There was a rumor that Sprint and Walmart were in talks to put a 4G tower on top of every Walmart in the US. With the Common Cents mobile partnership it's a little light that hopefully such a deal could be in the works. Would for sure help to expand the WiMax network.

WOW.... Now that would be freaking awesome. That would mean I would have it even when I went back home to visit family in REDNECK ville, Texas.

I hope they have enough because with the Pre launch you couldn't get a replacement for all those defective devices. Not saying the evo will have this problem but if you do get a defective one it would be nice to get a replacement right away.

What "abundance of supply"? My Radio Shack got their allotment pulled from them and BB only has a "couple".

Abundance FAIL.

I'm sure he was talking about Sprint stores. I have a friend at a corp store here in town that has 110 Evo's for Friday.

How can the CFO of Sprint speak for how much supply BB or RS order?

Sprint supplied the Sprint Stores with them first. As for Best Buy, then got their pre-orders and "a couple more" for walk-ins. The Best Buy I am going to is opening early and closing late just to get the pre-orders through.
