Sprint Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch: My phone keeps rebooting itself

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

This samsung galaxy s2 epic touch 4g phone is complete garbage. I have had 4 refurbished phones so far (epic touch 4gs) , and now my phone is crap again. All those symptoms of restarting and power button not functioning correctly is due to a faulty power button. Over time the power button wears down and becomes useless. True story actually, the last refurbished one they ordered me already had a broken power button. It seems they are doing temporary fixes to these phones that way you are forced for an upgrade. I had to wait 2 weeks just for a functional phone that broke in 2 months. Good luck guys... try to use an app that powers off the phone to relieve stress from the power button.

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

I am on Galaxy SII phone #3 and have experienced the exact same problem with each phone. Mine restarts 10+x per day and drains the battery by lunch. The screen will go from black to lit up constantly while simply resting on the table. If it's connected to a charger, the phone will completely power down rather than restart. Each time I've gone into the Sprint store they've done a factory reset, which does not fix the problem. Thankfully the phone will restart in the middle of when they're explaining to me what they did to fix the issue, so I got a new phone two times before. The issue very clearly has something to do with the power button. Pressing the power button will do absolutely nothing most of the time. At the same time, sometimes the power down/silence/restart screen which should come up when I press the power button comes up at random when my finger is no where near the power button. Now I have to plug it into a charger just to get the screen to illuminate when I need to use it. It's a totally garbage phone.
At this point I can upgrade and finally get rid of this POS. I'm so mad at Samsung I'm actually considering switching to an iphone, which if you know me, is saying a lot.

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

I'm experiencing almost the exact same as most of you. I've had the phone for almost a year and suddenly it now reboots CONSTANTLY I can't even make calls or anything because it'll reboot in the midst of the call or text. It's so bad it reboots every couple of minutes. The only time it doesn't it's when it's plugged in. After much going back and forth with spring they replaced it and as soon as I walked out the door it started doing the same thing and it also gets VERY hot.

I've heard really bad things about spring and I've also experienced terrible signal, data connection but this is the ultimate disgrace. I wish a bunch of us would just complaint to the BBB or something this sounds too fishy to me. I'm gonna go back to sprint and tell them the issue here, but, based on the experiences above I don't think it'll matter. Ugh!

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

Orchid7 - I'd guess that this is your original battery, right? It's probably going bad and replacing it might fix your problems.

This is why I don't like phones without replaceable batteries.

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

Having the same problem spent over 22 hrs on the phone and in person with Sprint representatives. i have the Sprint insurance and every tech I speak to says they have problems with the SII's. On guy said it was his "Bread and Butter, without the SII he would not have a job." Sprint keeps running out of them and I am on my 4th one. Does anyone have any clue what to do here. They will elt me out of the contract and will only exchange me out of the phone into a lesser quality (they say is comparable, but specs do not and they will not let me return to an SII). Any thoughts on what to do? I HATE SPRINT!

Have the same problem going on the 5th SII. Sprint techs admit it is a problem noone will do anything at Sprint all i hear is "Our Systems will not allow us to do that." A buddy of mine said to tweet the problem...and spread the word. Protect your consumers and send a message to Sprint. I took 3 people away from sprint and to T-mobile. Working on more. HATE SPRINT with a passion.

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

SOLVED: When i removed my SD card the problem went away - at least for now. Luckily i did not have critical data or apps on it - so it seemed like an easy test.
This also makes sense in reading all the other posts - where even replacing the phone didn't help.

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

Friend of mine told me that his phone just recently started doing this to him as well. He has done a factory reset and it was still doing it. When it is on the charger it is fine, when running on battery alone it restarts. He is finally updating to GB27 so hopefully that helps, if not, since he has only had the phone since November am gonna suggest to him that he go to Sprint.

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

SOLVED! Several days passed and the removal of the SD card solved the problem.

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

I have recently found that the Flixster movie app cause untold problems on my phone. So when I need to use it, I install then promptly uninstall when I am done using it.
I will try the SD card tip.

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

So to those that fixed it by pulling the sd card, did formatting the card and putting it back in cause the problem to come back?

Formatting is the easiest thing your friend can try to see if the problem stops. I had the same issue a while back and removed the sd card because of it - the problem stopped once the sd card was removed. I've since installed another sd card and the problem has not returned.

Try removing the sd card, formatting it (if possible) then re-install it to see if the problem re-occurs. If it doesn't , then it could also be an issue with the battery since the device is fine while plugged into a power source but reboots when running on the battery. I'd recommend a new battery if this is the case. Hopefully Sprint can help with this. Otherwise, look for a good online replacement as the Sprint battery will cost around $30 (depending on where you go and if they want to "help" you out).

Let us know how everything works out.

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

My Galaxy S4 A started randomly restarting 05-SEP-2013. It became basically unusable for phone calls. After reading all the posts I decided to try removing the SD card. So far it's only been about 12 hours but I haven't had a restart and I've been on the phone for about 40 minutes without a problem. My thanks to all the posters here...I'm keeping my toes crossed that this was the issue.

UPDATE: 09-SEP-2013: It's now been 36+ hours and no restarts. I still have not tried reformatting the original SD (or getting a new one) and putting it back in the device.

P.S Mine is At&t version and those bastards won't help at all...even though my contract doesn't end till few more months they say i can re-sign the contract and get a new phone but god forbid noo.. they wont let me cancel the contract

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

I don't know anything about the Note (this is the Sprint SII forum) but if it behaves badly only when on battery you might have a bad battery. If the battery bulges or is swollen might be bad and replacing the battery might be the cheapest fix. (People say bad things about Samsung phones but you can replace batteries easily!)

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

Had it exact same issue. I solved it by doing:
1) pop out the SD Card
2) connected to my laptop thru SD Card reader
3) open and deleted everything in a folder named .Android secure

I'm not sure what was the problem, but it is solved now. Hope it will help

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

Cleaning lint out of the USB port on my galaxy nexus fixed my problems with my phone freezing up and spontaneously rebooting.

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

@Buck.... I've had the exact same experience. 3 batteries later and after the repair guy tried to get to a new phone. I was told it appears I have some humidity/moisture damage to the motherboard in my phone. I'm like if the phone hasn't been dunked and its humidity...then that's normal wear & tear bcuz we live in humidity. I'm frustrated as heck!!

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

REMOVING THE SD CARD "WOOOORRRKKKS"!!
If you're having the "REBOOT ISSUES" simply remove your SD Card.....I was ready to drive over to Sprint & Samsung and hurl rocks through their windows. Lol.

Thanks @srkmagnus!! You saved me alot of frustration....Sprint should hire or give you compensation my friend!!!

Re: My phone keeps rebooting itself

Guys I found out the core reason for why this happens.

It started happening to me a couple of days ago and I tried removing the SD card and it still kept rebooting itself. Then I figured I might have to change the battery or something but then I did a factory reset and everything was back to normal. My phone is faster than before as well. So the issue is not hardware related. It's definitely some software bug, a malware or something like that. The reason why removing the SD card worked for some is that the malware might have been in the apps in the SD card.

So if removing the SD card doesn't work, do a factory reset and it should be back to normal.
