Saw this app on flipboard called App Ops 4.3/4.4
In android 4.3 you don't have to be rooted....in 4.4 you do....but apparently this app allows you to set permissions for each individual app. This is a built in....but buried... feature of 4.3.
Tried it out and works great on the latest Sprint update.

See article http://www.androidauthority.com/app-ops-kitkat-319832/

So ie Facebook wants to access my contacts......I download the app but hate that. With this app I can turn off that permission. It also tells when the app last tried to access that info.
Love it! Why does Angry birds need my precise location???

Re: app ops

I downloaded and use a similar app. I used it on 4.3. So glad we are able to control permissions app use. I thought I lost the ability with the 4.4 update, but nope... as always with Android.... "there's an app for that!"

Yep.....awesome feature and is available for rooted 4.4 folks.
I was wondering when something like this would be available.

But why would Google disable it in stock (unrooted) 4.4? Too many developers complain?

Good point.....didn't think about it that way.....

My impression from the article was that they left intact but simply rendered unusable for now. It's almost as if they were trying to find a middle ground for consumers and devs.
You would think they know that anyone interested in this option probably would delve into rooting..... and I bet the devs of all the apps (using term dev loosely) did complain quite a bit!

Im glad the option is available though..... its almost like a phishing scheme the way some of these companies use permissions.
They come up with this great app/game.....offer for free.....then take all your personal info in return.
Lol Facebook does not need my precise location.....Angry birds Star wars does not need access to my contacts for any reason!
