Sprint Hero 2.1 released(facts and finding/complaints)thread

Should we also have done a full configuration reset after installing the upgrade, or did the upgrade already do that for us?

There is definitely more lag with the new 2.1 but that might also be something to do with the app/memory tuning the OS is supposed to do for the first two weeks. Anyone know if that's true? if so, the performance should get better in another week?

re bluetooth, I just bought a new JVC car stereo w bluetooth and it works, but only "mostly." In fact, today I was struggling to make it work and then realized that my phone's radio had totally locked-up, i.e., the UI still worked but there was no Internet connection anymore. I did a full power-cycle and both Internet and bluetooth finally worked.

My radio for the internet stop working also. I don't know what the problem was but when I got into a wifi I updated the browser and Twidroid and it started working again. Before it would say no data connection when I tried to surf the web or pull up the download tab in the app store.

I'll be honest I updated my hero, and I have a little bit of lag but nothing that I didn't notice when I had it on 1.5... only thing I don't like is the annoying heptic feedback no matter when I type on the keyboard... other than that no problems here.

Glad I'm not the only one... I never keep my WiFi on ( fear of battery drain ). My internet - reg. ole' EVO, went out yesterday for no apparent reason. All I did to to get it back was turn on WiFi and now it's fine - even with WiFi off. Why would that have happened? I never keep my WiFi on and this has never happened before 2.1. Should I do a battery pull? A shut down didn't solve the problem and I was just about to pull the battery when I touched my WiFi and turned it on. Viola, it fixed it. My friend lost her "lockscreen" the other day, came back with a battery pull. Other than that, love my phone still.... just better now.

I did not read through all of these so sorry if I repeat another complaint. Since I "upgraded", my messaging is EXTREMELY slow. Long lags and "loading" clocks. Any ideas? Also seems to open apps by itself in the backround. When I check my app killer, there they are.

Apps are opening in the background because you are running an appkiller (odd, I know). Also there isn't much you can do about the lag if you are running the official 2.1 RUU. You can do what was recommended above and turn off the haptic feedback, which may help a tad with lag.

Still crashing like a nascar race. I noticed if the battery is low it crashes like a..... like a..... like a mother bear. Don't now if this is anything. I tried the disable wifi and re enable it but it still crashed. Getting to be very annoying. No way I'm going to get the wife to leave the iPhoney if it keeps on crashing. But I'm keeping quite about it to her. The BB doesn't crash EVER.

Bluetooth Problems

I have the same problem. I can use the car's controls to dial and hang up, etc... But I cannot hear any of the audio that is coming through from the phone.

It doesn't happen all the time, either. Sometimes it works fine, but the other times I have to switch to handset mode to be able to use my phone. Frustrating.

Same exact thing. If anyone has any ideas how to fix this I'd appreciate it. Not having Bluetooth working in the car is dangerous.

It takes 10 seconds while making a call for the phone to actually connect. it is, ,hit the button and wait for the phone to dial / connect. It takes so long, I sometimes redial and call the same number twice.

If you don't have the official release, I would recommend OC the phone. Eliminated 99% of minor issues I was having.

It sure seems that alot of problems are being caused by faulty apps....mine is running just fine on the official release...I did have to uninstall a compass app because it ate my battery in a big way....

People need to be mindful of the apps they install, and the amount of battery/processor power consumed by them.

I'm a fairly moderate user, so it's easy for me to see if something starts killing the battery or generating lag... So far I'm pretty happy with the release.

2.1 update = FAIL!

My installed programs:
Barcode Scanner
Astro File Manager
Mint
Stock programs

Constant lockups, Constant Lag after a day of LITTLE use (only use about 5 times per day cause the phone just annoys me to the point where I wanna smash it.) Battery lasts one day MAXIMUM. Locks up when receiving phone calls - the call screen pops up (with ringtone most times not all times), no picture or caller ID info for about 10 seconds then it comes up, keeps ringing for about 1 minute while unable to answer or deny call (Phone is COMPLETELY locked up). Finally catches up & then I get a voicemail message. Also lock screen fails 50% of the time, it turns on like it was already turned on at the last app I was using, then I have to hit buttons until the lock screen comes up to actually use my phone takes about 5 buttons presses. Sometimes the Data service shuts off for no apparent reason then I've got to reboot the phone. My work Exchange account will not autoupdate, I've got to go into my mail box then it syncs even though I have it set to as items arrive.

I'm only using 3 homescreens because the lag with more (or god forbid a widget) is just stupid.

The phone stock with 1.5 was annoying, but useable to the point where i didnt wanna smash the phone everytime I used it. Rooted with Gumbo 1.5c & the phone was tolerable but still a bit laggy & annoying at times. Sprint 2.1 update - I avoid using my phone because everytime I wanna just smash it to pieces & punch holes in the walls when i miss important calls & emails.

This phone with sprint 2.1 is MORE horrid than my old HTC 6700 with Winmo 5. Every HTC phone I've owned has been a slow hardware flawed piece of **** that drives me ****ing insane. I think this Hero is destined to sit next to my old HTC 6700 on the side of the highway smashed to pieces.

& oh yea, I reloaded 2.1 2 times & wiped the handset completely before each install. HTC = another garbage chinese company. Android = not ready for primetime. Blackberry is successful with their boring OS because IT WORKS, crApple iPhone gained ground because it worked even with it's communistic control over eveything Dictator Steve Jobs said you werent good enough to handle. Win mobile FAILED because of ****ty written code, but hopefully Microsoft actually does realize it with Winmo 7 & fixes the flawed software. I see Android going through what WinMo went through. At least crApple spent the time to eliminate the annoying functionality & ensure their products worked software & hardware wise & NOT only on paper to accountants

EDIT: & Sprint TV lags to the point where the picture gets delayed by about 2 seconds from the dialogue 3 or 4 times per 1 hour show. WTF? This phone is like the little engine that couldnt, HTC shoulda realized it's hardware limitations & scrapped the initial underpowered prototype, NOT try to add functionality to a weak phone that can barely keep up. BUT this is typical chinese manufacturing where features on paper trumps real world useage. HTC needs to realize the American market wants QUALITY & Performance, not hyped marketing features that sound good on paper & fail in the real world. I bet HTC woulda sold more phones if their hardware was halfway up to par, but these kinda companies only look at numbers from dip**** accountants which effects quality for the worse.

Still crashing like a nascar race. It crashed numerous times today. I have no idea what was prompting it to crash. If I could go back to 1.5 I would. A Pre is looking good now. I have the official release of 2.1. Hell if I could snag a 8530 BB I would.

ive wiped dozens of times, and never had a problem...what version of recovery are you using? are u also doing a factory reset as well as a wipe? are u also wiping davlik?

LOL, a little bit over the top but I totally know how you feel. I totally want to smash my Hero in to pieces every time I try to call someone and it lags for 30 seconds before it finally makes the call. By this time ive already mistakenly called the same person 3 more times and have a 4 way conference call going with the one number because i keep pressing buttons thinking that it couldnt possibly be taking this long to make 1 phone call! I think ive about had my fill of this phone and the 2.1 OS. If all I needed to do was watch youtube vids all day long then this phone would be great but I actually need it to function as a phone too. My blackberry Tour that I use for work doesnt have all the bells and whistles but i can make and receive phone calls quickly and consistently as well as text and email without ever having a glitch. Theres something to be said about rock solid consistency. The hero has sadly turned in to a big disappointment for me.

I can't comment on the phone lag as of yet. The Hero is a second phone for me now. I have a BB 9700 on AT&T as my primary line. But just last night the phone was rebooting while charging on the side of the bed. I have no idea what is the problem.

Phone Call Lag

I too am having issues when trying to make a call. The issue normally happens after i have already made a phone call and immideatley try to call someone else. The phone laggs sometimes up to 30 secounds before actually making the call. Sometimes the screen will dimm before the call is made.

I was able to reproduce the problem by continuosly calling the sprint customer care center. I then started turning stuff off and found that when the wirelss data connection is turned off the lag is almost gone. Can anyone else confirm this?

I love the update, but if i cant use the CELL PHONE to make a PHONE call it is useles to me.

I'm close to throwing this damn phone in the trash

It completely annoys me when I try hanging up on someone by pressing the 'end call' button, phone lags, and then I accidently dial someone else's number

it's getting ridiculous

After 2 hours on the land line with Sprint there sending me a refurbished Hero with 1.5 .... I'll take it.... root and go with the Developers for 2.1
