HTC and Sprint have officially released the 2.1 update for the Hero. You can get the update here:

Please use this thread to discuss the official 2.1 update. The rumors thread, as well as the numerous threads about the official 2.1 will soon be closed.

To install the software update:

1. Be sure to back up all your data
2. Be sure the latest version of HTC sync (available at the same link as the 2.1 update) is installed on your computer
3. Plug your phone into your Windows computer and run the software update utility.

That is lame. I thought it was included. I've been running the leaked version for about a week, only to find that it was the official release. I was expecting more I guess. Either way, it's MUCH faster than before.

I'm reading:
Bluetooth virtually nonexistent
No live wallpapers, or friendstream
No gallery (but app available?)
No voice input (work around available without root)

I don't suppose anyone has a mirror to the HTC Sync thing that's apparently needed before using the update file.

yeap theres bluetooth prob,gallery you should be able to put the apk on sdcard and install with a file manager.No ROOT yet,theres a program called gsd that keeps the awake time pretty much the same a up time,might be a wierd usage my twitter eating up cpu in the background,the audio loss problem seems to possibly still be there.

grrr.... HTC Sync doesn't seem to want to work under virtualization (Windows running under Parallels on a Mac).
