Sprint is letting go Samsung Epic in October!!!

don't believe anyone claimed the Epic 2 to be a GS2 phone. In fact, many that are talking about it are questioning it being a worthwhile upgrade for current Epic owners. There's also rumor of an LG slider coming to Sprint based of the Gx2.

Well, it's a pretty good phone as is with Froyo, granted I get more out of it having rooted, but I'm pleased enough with it as it is to keep it for a long while.

Not so sure why this is big news or shocking news. Every technological device has either unintended or intended obsolescence. When the time comes, I will replace my Epic with some other device and my Epic will become another Sonos controller or handheld wifi gaming device just like my wife's iPhone 3Gs before she got the iPhone 4.

I can't say that Samsung needs to do a better job with updates (since most devices are probably still Froyo out there); however, I wish that Samsung does a better job with software compatibility in the future as they do make awesome phones.

Here it is October 12, 2011 and still no Gingerbread official release for the Epic 4G, which is due to be EOLed real soon now.

Anyone want to bet that October 31 will come around and Samsprint will give us a virtual shrug and "Oh well. We decided not to release 2.3 for the Epic 4G because it got down to being too close to EOL for the device. We've repositioned our assets towards future devices."

I've seen this happen many times with many companies where we wait and wait and wait and wait and nothing happens. Then the company either evaporates or announces something all new because of new developments that would have made the old thing outdated upon release unless they'd been able to release it on the original schedule.

As I recall, a recent(in the last week) front-page article written by GBHill, he lays out Sprint's Network plan/vision for the coming years, it's future with WIMAX, the soon coming LTE, and its ongoing expansion with the CDMA 3G Rev A/0 network(formally known to me as the "Now Network", but it's more like the "?Where-Network?" lately ;-) ...Now, in this article, I think it explicitly states that Sprint now plans to keep selling its entire crop of 4G phones well into 2012. In fact, I could swear it specifically names the OG EVO 4G, and the OG Epic 4G. So the Epic might remain a relevant phone to the marketplace for a while longer.
And besides, even if the Epic 4G actually DOES get pushed out of it's faded spotlight 2 minutes from now, it is still very much a powerful phone, with a GPU sent from the Gods. Relevance in the marketplace comes and goes quickly, but relevance to one's personal life and unique needs can remain for much, much longer.

The epic was taken off the EOL list back in July or August I believe

The Epic isnt going anywhere until the 4G LTE version is ready for Sprint.
I say that because I just saw the Verizon version of the Epic and not only did it have Gingerbread 2.3.3 but it was 4G LTE
It cant be that hard to change the radio in the phone from Wimax to LTE

Criket also has there version of the Epic that has just been released

Samsung is going to make that phone for quite some time.
Now whether Sprint keeps using it is another matter.
It is currently the only slide Android phone they sell that works
