There is a base tower in the 92108 area code of San Diego that is either in Beta testing for LTE or is fully active. I consistantly receive 4G on My Motorola Photon Q LTE every morning when commuting to work (for those of you who know San Diego, this is the area of the Grantville trolley station). I will find out tomorrow the exact base staion number and location and report it in a later post. I called the Sprint Engineering Team and asked if indeed this location is processing 4G LTE and they said "we can not confirm if the tower in this area is up and running because we are not authorized to disclose before the 'official' announcement."
I thought at first that maybe the Photon Q was blessed with a tri-band radio and was only receiving the WiMax signal broadcast from SDSU, which Sprint users have access to. But the Photon Q only has LTE capabilities. Soooooo.........
Very soon, San Diegans, hang in there!
(NOTE: It might be the tower on 5105 Waring Road, owned by Towerco Assets, LLC, which leases CDMA service to Sprint. I'm quite sure.)

The following post will contain all the Towerco broadcasting towers in that vicinity which leases bandwidth to Sprint Pcs...For all you tech fanatics who are dying to know about Sprint's LTE rollout!

(NOTE: Come to think of it, this is most likely the tower Sprint has upgraded and is utilizing for LTE coverage in this area as of 03/05/2013. It is at a higher altitude, and is a stand-alone tower, not on a rooftop. I'm sure anyone could research it on the FCC's web site if they wished to find the specs.)

Sprints NV upgrades in the San Diego Market began late december and early january. Feel free to visit the market thread here Network Vision/LTE - San Diego Market - Sprint 4G Rollout Updates for more information and sightings from other local san diego folks. Though I can tell you for a fact that there are many, many more towers with NV 3G upgrades up and running and progressing towards activating LTE.

Also check out sensorly to see where others have found LTE.
