Not to doubt you...but where on Earth did you hear that Verizon is switching to GSM? That would cripple their customer base.

He probably is referring to how LTE uses a SIM card. I don't know if that means everything will go that route or only the data part uses a SIM, etc.

Once verizon fully switches their cuatomer base over to lte it will be a gsm carrier. Thats the direction they are taking.

That's a misleading statement. Verizon will NEVER offer GSM service (or EDGE/WCDMA/HSPA). I think you mean once they are LTE-only (which probably won't happen for at least 2 years) they will stop offering CDMA2000 voice service.This remains to be seen. Voice over LTE still has some significant hurdles to overcome and having CDMA 1x voice as a fallback will offer some insurance against LTE network issues during times of emergency.
