I just switched from my HTC Lte 4g and love my S6 except I can't be on a call and use the Internet at the same time. I did this every weekday on my HTC. Is that normal?

I'm on Verizon and have the same issue. I used to do browsing and be on the phone a lot but now when I make a call it drops to 1x... I'm not really happy about this. Is there a setting that fixes that or is that just how it works? If so I'll be switching to something else.

Unfortunately you cannot do this anymore on Sprint. I will list below as to why.
The older phones had two CDMA radios put in them (such as the S3 on Sprint). One dedicated to voice -- another dedicated to data. Therefore you could do voice and data. GSM has always been one radio .. because that one radio can do both tasks at the same time. They got around it on CDMA by simply adding another radio in there and dedicating each one to one task.
Now a days they're getting rid of that second CDMA radio. So therefore you can only use talk, or data -- not both at the same time. Now if you're using VoLTE it will allow voice and data since the call will be going through LTE (as data) and .. data will be data. So it is technically then all data.

OK strike that. I figured out the problem. You have to enable your HD calling for 4G to remain on during calls. You don't have to make the HD call but you have to have that feature enabled. To find it, go to settings, advanced calling, activate advanced calling. Once it's activated, you can choose to turn HD calls on or off. I understand that they do use data so making calls while on WiFi is fine but if you're limited on data plan, I would suggest disabling it when calling via 4g

Advanced calling (VoLTE) will work for you since you're on Verizon. For him being on Sprint he can't do this since they do not have VoLTE yet.
Also on a side note .. VoLTE will not use your data for normal calls. The call is technically data but won't count against your cap.

Looking to replace my HTC Droid DNA with an S6 and we've been considering getting away from Verizon, but I lose high speed data while calling if I switch from Verizon to Sprint?

That's what it sounds like. It may be something to discuss with Sprint if you're considering. I'm guessing it depends on the phone. Personally, I'd stick with Verizon. Yes they cost a little more but they have a lot going for them that the other companies don't.

Even with Spark it won't work at this time (if I recall correctly) -- Since Sprint doesn't have VoLTE. That is why Verizon is pushing VoLTE so hard because they know the functionality of the dual radios has been removed. Also mainly because (one day) in the future they want to get rid of the old network and be all LTE.

Thanks for all the info. It sucks but I can live with it. The only reason I stick with Sprint is for my company discount.

That's why I'm switching to AT&T as soon as the gold version is available (though I really wanted blue). Verizon's extended area are where I make my living, so I cannot use VoLTE. If I can't use VoLTE, I can't have simultaneous V/D. If I can't have simultaneous V/D, then I'm getting off their network and moving to GSM/HSPA via AT&T, which is and always has been able to support both, even in the 3g days, with a single radio.

Very true but some may not understand it (as in not knowing how they did the radios in the past versus now and why).. So no harm in asking

For sure. Just directing them to more conversation/information. Titled "radio" some might not make the connection.

had the same problem went in my phone was on global changed to lte/cdma solved the problem i can text and talk and send email while on the phone

HERE IS WHAT YOU DO TO FIX THE ISSUE (if with verizon)
1. turn phone off
2. turn phone back on
3. dial #832 and call
4. hangup when you hear "your test call has been successful
Your issue should now be resolved. Place a phone call and browse the internet to check.

That won't solve the talk and data issue, lte was disabled when I tried to make a call using lte/CDMA network setting
