Sprint Samsung Epic 4g Official Froyo EC05 [update.zip method/Custom Odin Packages]

Would the update.zip still be on their phones after they updated or does it get deleted? If they still have it maybe they can upload it for us?

Not sure, I would think Sprint would have a script to delete it or it would be erased from cache once the system is rebooted to finish the installation.

According to XDA dev,the update is downloaded then you are given the notice to update. Choose to install at a later time and go into your "/cache/" folder on your sdcard and the update.zip will be in there. ;)

Whoever gets this first and gets it out for everyone will be a hero! Basically, if your attempting this you will need to upload the update.zip to a file hosting service... Multiupload.com or equivalent.

I will most certainly upload this if I can grab it. Now I'm checking my phone every few minutes.....aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggh!

After all these months of waiting y'all are a pretty impatient bunch.

I've been burned many times by being an early adopter. I have no say in the matter this time, I'll get the update when Sprint wants me to, but if Sprint wants to kick the tires with other users before they get to me I'm all for it. As someone said this is somewhat of a live beta test. If the update is going to cause any problems I'd prefer the kinks get worked first out so I don't have any headaches. I'm happy to wait a few days to allow this.

It's inevitable I'll have the update by the end of the week. Maybe sometime next week if Sprint drags their feet. But if Sprint has to slam on the brakes due to issues I'll be a happy camper if I didn't get the update.

Cool your jets... Breathe... You'll have this before you know it! :D

I just wish my wife would hurry up and get the update, I'm so tired of getting texts all day about how much the epic blows (to explain, I mean her home screens are blank half the time and other times she clicks icons and the wrong app opens). I have been stalling for the update to come before I root it and rom it.

Some peoples phones are not working correctly. I am paying for 4g but all of a sudden can't get it. I carry this bulky phone but the reason it is bulky, the keyboard does not work correctly.

In August this phone came out as a high end phone, cost more then its peers at the time and promised Froyo close to after release. Instead of October it comes 5 months later in February and is not stable.

People have a right to be inpatient and pissed. I read before I purchased the Epic that people should avoid Samsung, that once they sell you the phone they don't support it. I should have listened, but while the Epic is still a good phone, the Evo would have been less headache.

While you are happy to wait for them to get a clean release, other people are plagued by bugs from the last release, the one that was 4-5 months late, and simply want their phones to work correctly.

Lol... I agree 100%. I can just picture some of these guys. Sweat pouring from their foreheads checking their phones with hands that are chafed by all the wringing. :-)

I'm seriously thinking about getting the evo out evo 3d because this is ridic. This phone should of had the update at launch and now 3 days into the announcement after failing once before and being almost a year late we are still waiting. Its total BS.... Not happy with sprint nor samsung

It is totally Samsung's fault. My HTC Evo gets nice smooth updates and it is on Sprint.

Yes, we are all crazy for wanting our $250 phones we pay $100 a month for to work correctly.

Hows your battery life and what's the phones best features to you. Also hows editing text besides sms because text editing on this phone will make you want to pull apart the keyboard from the screen. I'm soooo not liking samsung right now and this my first ever android and samsung phone even though android has nothing to do with it

alright, if this update fails for some odd reason... who wants to take bets the evo will get gingerbread before the epic receives 2.2??

If your phone is already hosed I guess I can see why you don't fear your phone getting hosed by an update. But there are plenty of us that have little room for improvement and a bigger risk of catastrophe.

As you said you are plagued by bugs from the last release. I am not plagued by much right now and fear being plagued by bugs from this update if it is not just right.

Sounds like maybe a factory reset would solve those problems?

Mine works correctly.

I wonder if rooting and new roms are responsible for the major headaches people are having?

I have one very frustrating problem with my Epic, when it locks up if any text message is sent the text message is lost. This is actually a MAJOR problem and the one issue I'm hoping gets fixed. And keyboard lag which is annoying but I've learned to live with.

For the record, I wasn't judging anyone. Just saying that if this update creates problems you'll be glad if you didn't get the update. You've lived this long without the update, a few extra days as an insurance policy against making things worse is a small premium to pay for a phone that will potentially run much better.

HTC screws up too. I was one of the unlucky few with a launch day Evo that was bricked by the first update back in June. No one's perfect. That bricked phone, and the lack of an available replacement for 2 weeks, is what led me to hold out for the Epic.

Never rooted or flashed roms or anything like that. I'm waiting till this update to attempt a factory reset, I don't think I should have to wipe my phone to get a patch to work correctly, I likely will if i need to but I'd rather not do it twice.

The issue here is Samsung is long past where they should be doing quality control. They say it is released and going OTA this week you think they are doing more QC? If Samsung needs beta testers they could pop on this site and get all they want and tons of feedback. If they are in fact leaking it out slowly, ready to put the brakes on if there is a problem that is total garbage. They should have internal testing and live core testers to look at this stuff. Will betas get every bug no, but you can do alot better then how Samsung has done.

at this rate, Google would have already created a smartphone version of Android 3.0 and it would land on the EVO 4G before the Epic 4G even gets Froyo 2.2
