Sprint says I have to add a line with a new number.

Spent 30 minutes wasting my time at Sprint and walked out frustrated and empty handed. They wanted me to pay $199 and $10 a month (for 1000 minutes, 1000 messages and 100MB of data)... but I would have to add another line... with another phone number, and will not be able to make calls for my main number. I explained and showed them all the info I had that I should be able to use it as a standalone and leave my main note 3 at home, while using the Gear S to recieve calls and text over 3G..... and they stated (and confirmed through customer service) that was incorrect.

What am I missing?

You have to have a phone number and a $10/month plan if you are planning on being outside of a bluetooth range with your phone. Your main phone will forward the calls to the watch, but the watch has to have its own line to do that. Otherwise, you have to be with in a Bluetooth connection to your phone.

Also, what plan do you have with Sprint for your phones right now?

I have a family share plan. My $10 a month gives me unlimited data and text. I share cellphone minutes.

I have already used my watch away from the BT of my phone, so this is a no-brainer for me.

It is included in the $10 fee. But I would check with Sprint to make sure since we have different plans.

You could just tell Sprint, you'll go buy it off T-Mobile and use their service. For $15 you get unlimited minutes and text and 500MB of LTE speed. If you use that up, you'll be throttle to 2G speed for the rest of the period. That is if you want to stay with Sprint and use T-Mobile as your leverage.

If you know a friend or relative that have T-Mobile, you can ask them to allow you to put your S on their plan and it'll just be $5 a month. You get a $10 credit for being a T-Mobile post pay customer.

If sprint knows you don't want to use it untethered to your BT they may sell it without the plan. I just needed the plan.

This is exactly what i did. I got the $15 a month plan from Tmobile and kept my Note 4 on Sprint. Works fine all around

If you are paying 10$ a month you are indeed on this plan. And your GS is not tired to your family share plan.

So are you happy with it so far? I'm curious how many of the 1,000 minutes, 100mb data and texts you use. Do I understand it right, if your Smart Phone is nearby, it is using those minutes and data and only using the allotted if you are using the new phone # and away from your smart phone?

Say you (are in range) and you use the Gear S to answer all incoming calls to your primary #, it is similar to previous Gear smart watches or a Bluetooth ear piece and not using the 2nd ptn correct?
