Sprint update available!!!

Hmmm, weird. Mine does it with the stock message app & with Handcent. Did it before the update, & is still doing it.

And unfortunately a fix will have to come from Sprint for this. It HAS to be a bug in their network programming...enough eyes have went through the kernel and OS that I'm certain it would have been found. And it doesn't affect everyone so it's even harder to figure out.

Is this same thing happening to you as well? I'm hoping it's not just me.

Not to me, but I've certainly heard of it. At first a few people thought it may be somehow connected to the timestamp issue that causes some N routers not to work. Sprint did fix that, but people are still seeing the issue so that's not it.

Can a firmware update be capable of improving reception? Quick background, I work in a college's library basement (former bomb shelter!) and therefore my reception is limited at best and nonexistent most of the time. However, after I installed the update yesterday my reception has improved dramatically. I even get some 1x reception when before I never got any. Perhaps it's something else? Not that I'm complaining. The update did fix the clock. I don't know about the texts because I started using Chomp a while back and I'm not changing it, it works really well. The phone did feel a bit faster and smoother at the beginning but lag did return eventually. I have noticed that the lag exists (for me at least) when I "wake up" the phone. It will take it a few seconds to get started or open a program or change screens. I'm happy so far. Bring on 2.0!

I've also noticed better reception or should I say more bars and Ev displaying more often.

Has anyone noticed that the version number remained the same or is it just me??
My update was completed smoothly - but see no change.

I saw postings of perple claiming that the version number indeed changed.

But I'm sure internally many bugs were fixed.
My phone seems a little quicker in apps and the h-feedback on the dialer....

Wait and see I guess......

Update doesn't fix AWAKE TIME PROBLEM!!!!!!!!

I am really surprised that HTC didn't address this issue with this update. It seems that this was the major issue or complaint everyone was having. I am tired of having to keep my HERO near a charger all day! I hope they have a fix soon or I will be moving on to something else.

I have tried the fix suggested in the forums but it only works for a few days then goes back to 100% awake time and starts auto opening the built in SMS app.

Someone at HTC needs to understand that this is a very important problem that needs to be fixed immediately!

From most of the posts I've read after the update, awake time issues have been fixed. I've only seen a small number of people say there's isn't. I haven't updated mine yet since I've been way too busy at work, but I'm about to flash back to stock, update, then root again.

Are you rooted or stock?
If your stock, there is a way to do a more extensive reset that wipes all data (more so than factory reset in menu) Might do that and see if the update fixes it, if not might try to swap your phone with another.

I have rooted my hero and did the madaco rom + clear then when trying the update it kept failing after the verifying the installed package. I used the original rom for the hero and reflashed it. I was able to get the update to work then. And after that i rerooted and then re did the modaco. i know i know it seems crazy, but i did like the add ons from the modaco. I love the nandroid backup. It lets me create a clean slate backup before new stuff comes out

Definitely fixed the awake bug for SMS for me. I only use the native app now, and my phone is sleeping like a baby. 22 hours since update, and my awake time is 3hours 13 mins, good for 14% awake time.

Agreed. Awake bug is fixed. and also looks like the icons being corrupted after reboot is fixed as well. My Hero seems to work much better now after update.

Although A2DP still skips but not as bad as before. Will have to do more testing.

You do know Modaco ROM is based on the original rom and does not contain anything from the updated firmware... you can verify this by checking your software version number. Fresh on xda has released an updated rom using the new firmware as the base but there's still some issues with it. I had to revert back to just rooted status and not use any of the custom roms... :(

I just flashed to fresh's .4 w/mu and am thinking of going back to root + recovery as well. Especially since info has been released on how to remove stock apps.

Hopefully modaco will update his soon, all the extra apps are great and definately missed at the moment

It's another 3rd party app then. Sprint pulls a lot of things that irk me, but they did get this one right. The dialer package has been changed considerably and no longer stays awake when called by the stock messaging app. I know the Youmail app will keep a Sprint Hero awake 100% of the time from the monent it's installed until you kill the application. You must have something similiar going on.

Is anybody still in the same boat i am, where all the texts i send are at the bottom & all the replies are stacked on top of mine? It really makes it hard to follow the conversation when you gotta scroll up to see a reply. This was kind of a let down. I was hoping that this so called update was gonna fix this problem.

That's not just a hero issue, my instinct did the same thing. I dunno what the exact problem was, but I don't think it was the phone, it was a tower or a timestap issue. I drive a truck from oklahoma to california every week and it was notorious for doing the text stack around state lines, like the phone was picking off of two different towers. My texts would be time stamped with whatever the phone clock said, based on where I was at, but for some reason, the texts I recieved were always time stamped an hour forward or back, depending on whether I was on the east or west border of each state.

Every so often it would do it in the middle of the state, but it was more common within 50 miles of the various state lines. And it didn't always do it.

anybody having problems with pic mail...take a pic and try to send it via pic mail it says it cant send the pic is too big....didnt do this till after the update ?

I drive a truck too, but it doesn't matter if I'm on the road or in my house. The reply texts always show a time of 1 hr earlier than my time. I still love my hero though. Just a pain to deal with.
