Sprint update available!!!

My phone won't find the update. Have been trying all week. I click on Firmware Updates, and it just sits there circling. Last night I turned off the screen timeout, and let it sit 'preparing my services' while I slept, woke up about 3 hours later, and it was still 'preparing my services.' HELP ME PLEASE!

Nevermind, I just hard reset and tried again and it updated.

OK gbhil, I've read and reread everything and I jumped into rooting last night. It was actually easier than I thought, BUT, I either completely missed, or misunderstood and tried to root after the OTA update, and hung the phone at the htc screen...so I ruu'd back to the original and got everything situated for a second run at it.

The one question I have is where does the update you posted come into effect? I'm assuming before root, but I can't seem to find how to "run" it, or is it ran after root at the screen that has nandroid etc., on it? Thanks.

OK, I gotta a question about this rooting. What is the advantage of it? I mean I rooted my Pre and loaded a bunch of hacks and homebrews but what are the advantages of a rooted Hero?

a lot of the same, lol
Right now I think there are at least 2-3 roms available for the Hero after rooting.
That and Wifi Tethering, picme, and other apps that require root to run.

RUU back to stock
Run the update (OTA or download and install and run with pkg manager)
Re-root
Flash recovery image
Backup.

Save that backup on a PC somewhere and you're set to tinker and destroy the OS lol.

haha, thanks again....after today I'm pretty sure I can ruu and root/flash in my sleep now. I lost count of how many times I've done it today.
