Sprint Update to Froyo Canceled...

Now THIS is funny...

I can't say I'm surprised, although my update seems to be working 95% correctly and I haven't seen either of these two major issues they are talking about. I'm curious to see how this shakes out, although I could easily see this taking months. :-p

Strange my update is working just fine...

SAME.....three days now and all is fine. Maybe that's why it's still up on samsungs website......brave souls only?

i am happy i manually updated but no more samsung for me. i will get out when i can get a free upgrade next year. not leaving sprint though. plan is so cheap

Same here. I bought my phone off contract for $370 but I will likely upgrade to a non Samsung phone in September. Maybe Evo 2 will be out by then. I love my Epic and still feel its a top 10 phone but it still lacks features that other phones (cough Evo) have. The Sprint plan I'm on with discount is too good to leave for another carrier.

@all, didn't someone (me) say don't get your hopes up about the official release? Life for those of us who installed the leaked DK28 Froyo and ran ROMs wasn't that bad after all was it?

Oh well. They will get it worked out, they have to now.. Every min that goes by makes Sammy and Sprint look bad so I'm sure it will be fixed ASAP.

I just manually updated and it was quick and painless to be honest. I'm liking froyo and can definitely ride this phone out til my next upgrade. It feels snappier and I haven't ran into any problems. Maybe a few months down the line ill root it but at this point I have no need to.

asap to sprint and samsung is within 6 to 8 months lol

I don't think we can keep blaming Sprint. Samsung's track record with updates is just awful. This is not the first Galaxy S phone to have its update pulled, and from what I've seen over the web, Samsung phones are also the only ones having problems with the Windows Phone 7 update as well. They have to recognize they have some serious problems they need to fix if they wish to remain relevant in the smartphone arena.

I updated my Epic when it came out and so far it has run flawlessly. Every point that everyone has made I have tested on my epic. As of now, I have no issues. The only thing I'm hating is the passcode or password screen lock when you configure an exchange email account. I wish it could be disabled. Also, I wish we could create folders in the application menu to categorize our apps. All in all, I am enjoying the update with the flash.

I manually updated my husband's pure stock phone, he has no issues at all.
But what is funny, and why this update is no big deal to me - he is not a power user, so for most people who run stock and don't "play" with their phone, he cannot tell one bit of difference. So he is happy and asked what's the big deal.

Mine is rooted, Midnight 3.1 and love it. I'm watching his updates, but probably won't. Its running too perfect and can't see what else I will get.
When I check my readouts, battery performance to hubby's stock, I'm still running more efficiently that he is.

So even though we complain, the majority of owners are not on these forums, are not hacking and flashing, so are basically happy campers. We just hear more positive or negative.

2 Wait or Not 2 Wait?

Hey,

I'm one of those who has stock Eclair (unrooted), been waiting for froyo to get pushed to my phone, and has not received the update.

Should I wait for the fixes for froyo and remain on eclair, or update manually to froyo as listed on samsung's website? (Let's assume that I don't have any other options, such as rooting and applying a custom ROM)

Is there a difference between sprints OTA update and Samsungs manual update?

If I do update manually and sprint comes out with a fix, would the fix apply to both users who are running eclair and those who already updated to EB13?(OTA or Manual)

They're the same.

The only bugs I've come across are the camera Sports mode and lowlight video lag. I updated with the Samsung zip after using Odin to install Eclair fresh.

Hi, Sora.
Welcome to the forum.
I would say... it's always better to go with the "Official" updates, rather than manually do it yourself. However, if you believe it's taking too long and it's imperative you have it now - then by all means > do what you have to do.

Best of luck.

I had a stock unrooted eclair phone and updated to froyo using the update.zip method. The only issue I've really had is the sports mode in the camera, and to be honest I never use sports mode so no biggie for me. I hardly ever take videos either. I think a lot comes down to how people use their phones. For me Froyo has been nothing but positive because of flash.

I'm with you. I'm glad I updated. I'm finally able to do voice dialing over bluetooth, and overall everything seems snappier. The only issue I have is the sports mode issue.

That is something you need to talk to youe exchange admin about. it's not a function of the phone, its a security setting in exchange that forces that through on the phone.

same here. manual update and i have no issues with browsers, market apps, gmail or some of the other things people mention. i have not tried the sports mode on my camera yet because i never use that function.

loving the apps on the sd card, pin lock & flash
