SPRINT USERS: LTE Manual Override

Well i had to drive through a launched LTE network today and have mixed results....going through the city it connected to LTE and I believe it did so because I did not have 3G active like it was suggested earlier. Had LTE all the way through the city so I was happy. Then when it was time to go home it never connected to LTE the entire trip through the city on the same route I had originally came. At the edge of the city 15 min later I toggled Airplane mode and it connected instantly.

I still think something is wrong. I should not have to toggle airplane mode in a LTE launched city. My prl and profile were recently updated as well. I'm just confused.

Sadly my s5 has done as those in the sprint forums. I can snag a 4g connection for a few moments and now just 3g. With my s4 in the same area I was in today I had full 4g signal. Sprint needs to fix this pronto. I didn't pay $800 for a phone for it to not work correctly. 😠😠😠😡😡😡😤😤😤😤

This will help with people on LTE but switched to a Galaxy S5 and now cant connect to LTE..beware its only a temp fix until they fix the towers.

Galaxy S5 LTE will not connect. This Fix worked for me. - xda-developers

I followed the instructions like another thread comment said to do but for some reason I couldn't get it to work still but after playing around I was able to get it working.

---- Instructions for enabling: (thanks eyecon82) ----

1. dial ##3282#

2. then click edit (need MSL code) (I used SPCUtility.apk as nothing else worked on my S5)

3. then click LTE

4. It will show LTE ( also known as Band 25), Band 3, Band 26, Band 41 ( I unchecked marked all of these but the LTE option leave that check marked to on)

5. Disable all bands leave LTE check mark to say on.

6. Go to the main directory by hitting back key and choose More at the bottom

7. Choose HDR/1X Selection and choose LTE only Mode. Click OK to save

8. You can either reboot or I just turn on airplane mode and turn it back off to reset the connection.

9. LTE should be working like mine did. But you will not get phone calls until you turn back on the HDR/1X Selection to LTE + CDMA +EVDO Mode but you will get text messages fine.

The items that are underlined in Red are the stuff i added.

---- To tell what Band on: ----

1. ##debug#

2. enter passcode 777468

3. go to LTE engineering menu

I hope this helps because all the other stuff I read would not work for my Galaxy S5 I just bought.

Thanks

This will help with people on LTE but.....

Thanks for the info!

I recently went to a different LTE launched area and was able to hold signal for quite some time. I read through your instructions and have tried that and it works but not getting calls or text is an issue. There are so few towers in my area that are LTE complete that it would just be a nuisance more than anything. I can definitely see this process if your area had most towers on LTE though.

Thanks for the engineering method! I will have to check that out. :)

Super Edit: This link explains what is going on perfectly. What a wonderful site :D http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-357-nexus-5-and-lg-g2-experience-temporary-sprint-lte-connectivity-issues-due-to-circuit-switched-fallback-technology/

Thanks for posting! I've been debating on taking the phone back but I love it and think I'll just stick it out until they finish upgrading the local towers.

This REEKS of the problems the Note 3 had at launch.

It was huge problem where the phone wasn't able to make phone calls or if the call went through, you couldn't hear because of the constant crackling and popping.

They eventually issued a fix, but shouldnt this stuff be tested out before theyre sold to consumers.

There's an Ota update (41mb) available and people are commenting on lte being fixed after the update in another thread. I've applied the update but haven't gone to an lte area to test.

LTE is now working for me with the new update. Totally excited!

Awesome to hear. I installed the update but still do not have known LTE towers on my daily commute. I will have to take a mini trip to a known one to test it out.

Did you guys disable any bands in the LTE menu? I noticed the update re-enabled my band 26. I will keep it enabled for now unless disabling is still needed.

The OTA that is out right now will enable these features. Those who do not have their MSL can view the new sertings once taking the update. The only thing you will not see is the change from Hubrid mode to LTE/CDMA/EVDO being selected in the hidden menu under edit.

I have all bands selected except band 3...Even after the update. I didn't think band 3 was useful in the states. Can anyone elaborate?

Band 3 is for Europe I believe, it is not used in the US. I saw no LTE difference after the update. Looks like it was just literally what they posted, S View and S voice updates, which is stupid and useless.
