Is there support for Logitech Media Server 7.8.0?

I have SB Player installed on my Fire TV, and it can't find my server, even though my physical players (Radio, Touch, etc) can find the server. This, even if I type in the name & address of the server. Is it because I'm running 7.8.0, or is there perhaps another reason?

SB Player works fine with 7.8.

Is the network setup correctly on your FireTV? If you're using Wifi, make sure that you are connected to the same network as your server.

OK, now that I passed the intelligence test and figured out how to log back into this site...

FireTV is wired to the router. The server, however, is on wireless. As far as I know they are on the same network. I can double check that but I've never consciously set up two different networks.

Actually, that was it! I had cascading wireless routers and had the FireTV connected to the wireless router I wasn't using for my wireless network.

Hi, thanks for both the Squeeze Control and SB Player apps. I am getting to grips with them both and am finding the experience very pleasing. Just a few queries please:

The Play Store indicates that SB Player is not available for use in tablets. Why is this? I have the Squeeze Player app which works on both phones and tablets but, of course, does not integrate with Squeeze Control in the same way as SB Player does. Can this be changed?

I have noticed that in Squeeze Control the screen refreshes from time to time. Normally this is ok but it has happened a few times whilst I have been typing and once refreshed all typing is lost. What causes the screen to refresh so frequently and can this be modified?

I hesitate in comparing apps with developers but there is one feature of Squeeze Commander which I really use a lot. If I select, for example, a Genre, it brings up a list of artists and right at the end of what can be a very long list is the option ‘All Albums’. This is, for me, the preferred selection. Squeeze Commander has this brought to the top of the list - is it possible to do this in Squeeze Control everywhere this option occurs?

Apologies if any of these queries have been raised before. I have searched through this thread as best as I can and may have missed an answer.

SB Player is available on tablets. There are no limits to device size. The only limit is that the device must by running Android 4.1 (Jellybean) or better. What type of tablet are you using?

I'm not quite sure why it refreshes from time to time, it didn't use to do it. I hasn't bothered me enough to look into it. Squeeze Ctrl sticks very close to how the the Squeeze Play interface (the UI for the Touch, the Radio, the Duet Controller, etc.) works and that interface is very server driven. So it's possible that changes to the server or plugins on the server have created this behavior. I'll have to see what's going on.

It's not really possible for Squeeze Ctrl. The lists in the app are incrementally loaded, so for long lists the All Albums item would not have been loaded until you've already scrolled down a large part of the list.

I am currently running Android 4.0.4 on a Motorola Xoom (unrooted). Good to know that the software will run on tablets. It might be time soon for a change as the Xoom is getting a bit long in the tooth.

I will be interested in your findings regarding screen refresh. It is by no means a deal breaker, just a minor irritation.

I was reminded of a Server Setting tonight - Additional Browse Mode - which actually provides me pretty much what I was after, so it is all good.

Playing tracks within a folder

Hello, I have just downloaded this app and have immediately run into a problem. All of my music is arranged as one album to a folder, and when I try to play from a track within the folder I seem to get the whole folder loaded into a playlist and not just the files from the selected track onwards. That is: if there are 10 tracks in the album/folder and I select #5, I expect to play tracks 5 through 10, but I end up with 5 through 4 (5 -> 10 and 1 -> 4). This is driving me crazy, and no amount of fiddling with the preference/settings seems to influence it at all. Can anyone help, and/or is there any 'help' information for this app anywhere?

Playing the whole album instead of a single track when you select a track is a server option. You can change that on your server: Settings > Player > Basic Settings > Play Other Songs In Album.

However, I don't think there is a way to play just the songs starting from the selected track.

Thanks for the reply Wayne, and I'm sorry for assuming that I had seen an issue with your control app; the squeezebox and server are where the problem is. It seems to be worse than I described as the selected track plays OK, but the order of the rest appears to be randomised! Time to get on to the SlimDevices forums.
Other than this, I have been enjoying using your app, and I also quite like the red background colouring. Hope I don't need to bother you again, and thanks again for the rapid response.

Wanted Squeeze Control on the new device but found out about the Pay Store fiasco. Trialed Squeeze Ctrl but see no differences from Squeeze Control, so have refunded it for the time being. Downloaded the Squeeze Control APK and installed that. It is different from the other installs of it in that the <preferences> are limited to only "general". Is this correct? Or am I doing something wrong?

Apart from that, loving it still!

Hi Wayne,

First I want to thank you for creating the Squeeze Crtl app. Your app is the centerpiece of a music system in my house that represents a sizable investment that also gives me great joy.

I have a couple of feature suggestions and an encouragement. For me the app is near flawless but there are a couple of features/controls, I would like to see. My default and favorite view is the Jukebox View since I have a large library of lossless music and I tend to go there first. Could there be a way to with one touch go from the Jukebox View to the Now Playing View. I know the change mode does it in two steps once you have sort of predefined the two modes but I guess I am hoping for a one click toggle that is always visible.

Next, since I have a total of 16 radios I would really appreciate a way to have predefined groups that I can go to quickly when setting up 1st floor, 2nd floor, basement, guest room etc. There may already be a way to do each of these and if so if you could just explain it to me.

My encouragement would be for you to keep working on porting Squeeze Ctrl to Windows 10. I would love that, use it, and gladly pay for it.

The APK should be exactly the same as the final version of Squeeze Control, it's the APK that I uploaded to Google Play. If you only see General in Preferences, then there is something wrong with the install. Try uninstalling it and reinstalling it again.

Unfortunately, Deezer is not yet available in the US so there's no way for me to diagnose the problem.

That's not nice! Deezer works for the Squeezebox-System better than Spotify!
I will still stay with Deezer, since there are no problems when synchronizing! Spotify makes only large (with Multiroom) trouble. Best Regard Volker

The current control scheme is too complex for non-touch devices. While I won't completely rule out the possibility of a TV version, I not sure if it's possible to have a control scheme simple enough to use with a controller and still offer the full functionality of the app.

Have now changed over to Squeeze CTRL from Squeeze Control. All good! Something interesting that is happening on the Samsung Galaxy S5 when I have controls enabled on the lock screen is that a mini player is visible and functional on the window of the smart cover that I use with the phone. Quite useful. But it has a glitch... whilst it displays the correct song title it keeps on showing the artist incorrectly. In fact, the same artist for every track so far in the last half an hour. Not a big problem at all, just interesting to note.
