Standby battery life.

Since I bought my Pixel 2 XL the battery loses a lot of power. I have 100% when I get to work and by 11:30 am it's down to 56%

Welcome to Android Central! That does not sound like a normal battery drainage. I'd recommend replacing it.

You didn't happen to mention what time you get to work, but if we assume that it's 8 am then that is indeed a huge drop for such a short time period.
There are things that could reasonably account for that drop, poor cellular signal being at the top of the list. You could try an experiment by putting your phone in Airplane mode the next time you go to work and see if the battery returns to a normal pattern (a couple of percent drop).
You can also look to see if any apps are eating up your battery; it may be that one or more apps are responsible. Safe mode would be a good way to determine that.

What does AOD stand for?
Always On Display
To expand on Kirstein's definition - it's the feature that leaves a floating display of the time, date and notification icons on the screen any time the screen turns off (either due to the screen off timer or Power button press). It may also show the 'Now Playing' song banner at the bottom of the screen if you have that feature enabled.

Thank you!

Apps like Facebook and The Weather Channel have always been battery hogs. Also, you could check in Security/Location/Location/Scanning to see if Bluetooth and Wi-Fi scanning is enabled. That draws a lot of power.

Yeah I don't use either of those. FB doesn't go on my phones (I have a different app I use). I'm actually going to do a test the next couple of days and charge to full before I go to sleep then pull the plug and see what eats the battery in the morning.

I have had scanning on simply because I like that WiFi just turns on when I get home and I don't have to think about it but that said it's kind of stupid because I don't use much wifi anyway. I'll try turning scanning off tonight to.

Overall my battery life is quite good during the day for my usage. I can get thru a day on the weekends usually. During the week I don't because I'm on it a lot with emails and texts plus I usually have something streaming for music or podcasts.

Used 8% in about 8 hours overnight with AOD and scanning off. Not to bad really though I will likely deal with the drainage from hlthe AOD as I have gotten to used to being able to glance at that.

I would say it depends on a few variables:

What time do you get to work?
What kind of usage?
Signal strength?

That's just a few

Screen brightness is also a factor. And as Mike Dee mentioned, how much do you use your phone at work, and what time does your phone leave its charger.

AOD is definitely a useful tool and it's something many users need in order to have a satisfactory phone experience; even if it causes a little bit of battery drain. Totally understand what you are saying!

Just got the LG G6 10 days ago and tested standby time, I have 6 services ON: WiFi, Sound, Location, Bluetooth, Sync, Capture+

I never use data, wherever I go there's WiFi :)

Also ON are 5 Widgets: standard time & weather (came w/phone), the chrome browser bookmarks, tracfone balance, Weather & Clock by devexpert.net, calendar agenda.

The LG G6 (LGUS997 Unlocked) Oreo 8.0, patch level: May 1, 2018, If just stand by with little interaction with phone, I get 2 days standby battery life.

Don't worry, it's just Google syphoning all your data and tweaking your phone settings while you sleep.

Perfectly normal.
