I know most here have already set up their phones but how you normally set up your new S10 start fresh and add everything yourself or transfer using smart switch?

I usually do it through Samsung cloud backup restore

I always start fresh just in case an app is incompatible...and also for the sake of feeling NEW ...

Smart Switch. Transfers everything over but app data. After the transfer is complete, you have to set up each app. So it's kinda like starting fresh, but without most of the hassle of setting up home screens and phone settings. But Smart Switch is flexible that you can pick & choose what you transfer over.

I use Smart Switch to restore my contacts, calendar & network settings only. I reinstall the apps. That keeps things pretty clean.

As @williams448 said, Smart Switch is really flexible.

With my new S10+, I started from scratch just to do some long overdue cleanup along the way coming from S7 Edge. Did take me almost a whole day though getting all my apps/ settings back to my preferences.

Transferred all but apps. Fresh start with apps allows you to have less clutter on your home screens. If you haven't used an app in three months, don't reinstall it.

This is me as well. Smartswitch for contacts and network settings (really just my remembered hot spots) and I reinstalled everything else.

I like doing a fresh start since most of my important stuff is in the cloud anyway. So will start fresh and install the apps, also gives opportunity to not install apps which I had before and no longer needed.

I always install as New.

I love taking HOURS or even sometimes days to set up my new toy.

Part of upgrading.

Alternate viewpoint: I need my new phone available as soon as possible, so I restore from backup & uninstall/disable what I'm not using after that. I've got about 200 apps on my phone (not counting system apps), I'm not going to go one-by-one reinstalling them.
