so i had this pone on release day and returned it and went back to my charge which i was really happy with.

However the tech freak in me couldnt get my mind off of ics. Now i sit here watching the rest of my post appearing as i typeed it 30 seconds ago. Then since it is almost impossible to type one hundred percent accurate when this happens i go back to spell correct i change it and as i type more the spell checks revert back to the mispelling i just fixed. So i decide to voice text and it is completely off. Then a random reboot. So what the heck lets do a factory reset and no changes. I know there is the option to root or turn off spell check and fix the bug in typing delay the backdoor way. However i just want this phone to do what it says it. Im fine with a Few bugs but when it affects the basic functionality of the phone i almost cant stand it. Would anyone recommend i pursue a razr maxx? Or have any advice?

That's not the phone, its you. If you allowed it to keep the incorrect word, it will have saved that incorrect spelling to your dictionary.

So i decide to voice text and it is completely off.

Again, not the phone. Google's voice actions/voice to text are still experimental features. They do not work 100% of the time.

Then a random reboot.

What were you doing when this happened?

Turning off spell check isn't a big deal. It doesn't turn off auto-correct, and it will get rid of any lag.

To me though, these sound like pretty minor issues. That's just me though.

Go to market and look up ics keyboard (for non ics phones) now read the reviews. Every review is acclaim after acclaim.

That said, i'm not exactly sold on the keyboard either, and so I use Swype. It's awesome. I think you forget that soft keyboards are by nature flawed. Every developer has some sort of method to make typing better or more accurate or faster, but there is obviously no perfect program.

I think you're asking for something that isn't necessarily possible. you're also forgetting how imperfect every smartphones' keyboards are.

I suggest you try more keyboards, including Swype.

I know what your talking about seems like the random reboots come just at the right time to piss you off. Not sure what to tell you about the keyboard, I find it to be the best keyboard I've used. I was a hardcore swype fan but after using the stock keyboard I can't go back. I find the stock keyboard to be the only one that can keep up with my fast typing and I have tried a lot of different keyboards. I called Verizon today and the random reboots have been reported. They said a software patch is coming early february. Keep in mind Verizon's info is wrong a lot.

Try clearing out your personal dictionary.

I honestly haven't had any keyboard issues. I love the stock ICS keyboard. I've been using it exclusively since launch day.

I can agree with the poster. It happens a lot when Im on Google+. Type a word and its mispelled with a red underline. Keep going.....Go back to the word, touch it and hit the correct word. When it gets corrected and I keep typing its ok. When I finally post, that word I just corrected will show the way it was when It was first messed up. Thats definitely an ICS keyboard flaw on 4.0.2.

Landscape mode has a bad lag also. And sometimes, doesnt even have the spell check feature when typing in landscape. I think Ill probably switch keyboards too.

I agree with this. Try turning the auto-correct off (which will definitely fix the lag) or try a different keyboard. This issue WILL be fixed is just a matter of when.

I had Swype on my Bionic and it was really hard using the keyboard on this phone, even for how good it is. Once you get the hang of Swype there's no looking back. I hardly make mistakes and the word recommendation with Swype is pretty accurate.

I don't think it's the keyboard, as you get the same functionality with any keyboard. I've seen it happen, and I use SwiftKey.

I do experience the occasional keyboard lag, however the incorrect spelling of words is hardly ever a problem. When it comes to the voice typing, for me it's crazy accurate. However, if it ever does get something wrong I just delete it and try it again but speak a little louder. Never had a random reboot so i can't speak on that. To me it seems like the majority of your problems might be stemming from user error, and if the "typing errors" really grind the gears that much then you should definitely pursue another device. However if it's an ICS error, so if it doesn't get fixed by the time other phones get ICS, you'll just have to deal with it all over again.

Justify the term user error please.

When you don't let the phone correct spelling, it saves the error in your dictionary. User error.

When you don't understand that googles voice actions/input are still technically experimental features. User error.

Unjustified statement as I have let the phone try to do its job and it hasn't.

Not remotely.

The reason the phone 'corrects' a word to the wrong spelling is if you have caused it to save that incorrect spelling. That is the only way for it to do so.

Voice actions/Input has never been 100% accurate. Ever. It isn't with Siri and it isn't with Voice Actions. It is a fact of life of systems like this that attempt to turn spoken text into written text.

The phone is doing everything its supposed to.
