"starting download"..then nothing. ..

Hi, first post...please go easy! Whenever I try to download a PDF, it says starting download at the bottom of the screen, no download symbol in the top bar (which is used to do), then nothing. I have googled and looked at previous posts here and have made sure adobe is installed and I have done a cache partition wipe. Still not working...any ideas for the next thing I should try? Cheers Ky
