Hi, guys. I've done my fair share of Googling and YouTubing and haven't gotten a straight answer. Instead of dealing with the automated help lines, I thought I'd see if anybody in the community could shed some light a question.

Can anyone tell me the steps needed to begin using a Nexus 6P on Verizon?

I'm a current Verizon customer. My One M8 is starting to die so I bought the newly-discounted Nexus 6P today. From my understanding, I can just take my sim card out of my One M8 and pop it into the 6P, right? Or do I need to head to Verizon and have them do something? The 6Ps are unlocked and Verizon-compatible, as you know, but I want to make sure I know about any further action I may need to take in order to begin using my new phone.

I'm pretty tech-savy but I've never dealt with an unlocked phone before. Thanks for the help.

If you have a Verizon Nano-Sim, just put it in the phone and you're good

Has worked for me on both the Nexus 6 and now the 6P with no problems. The only thing I can't access is the Verizon Cloud Service. No big deal.

Worked for me, then I switched to Project fi.

lol, I did the same thing. Used my 6P on Verizon for 3 months then moved to Fi.

To keep on topic, as already stated, if you have a nano-SIM just pop it in and you're good. One caveat, voicemail. I just could NOT get it working correctly once I had advanced calling enabled. Verizon doesn't (or didn't) support the native visual voicemail feature in the Google dialer and Verizon's visual voicemail app in the Play Store was not (at the time) compatible with Nexus devices.

Thanks for the tip. My 6P is getting delivered today. Very excited to get off work and get my hands on it. Appreciate the help guys.

VZW usually has nano SIMs, go in there, pick one up and have them activate it and your all set. I had one laying around so once I got my phone, I went through their online support and had the SIM activated and phone working within 10 mins of receiving the phone.

I know this is a few months old but I had no such luck. I purchased Huawei 6p unlocked from Amazon. I called Verizon before receiving my 6P because my current Galaxy S4 uses Micro Sim and 6P uses Nano. Verizon instructed me to a Verizon store to pick up a nano sim and said it would work fine. I did. When my 6P arrived, I called Verizon again to activate, when I gave them the device ID they said it was not recognized in their network, all they had to do was complete a form and add it and they would call me back when active...it should take 24 hrs. I received no call. I called back. They said it could take up to 72 hrs. When it is active they will call back. I received no call. I called back after 72 hours and they flat out said, oh, they should have told you, this device is not compatible. I went into the verizon store hoping to find competence. They also would not activate as device ID not found. I then called Verizon and tried to activate the new nano sim using with my number on my daughters iphone 5s which also uses nano sim. When I tried they said the Verizon nano sim was not compatible with iphone 5s. BS. Verizon is going out of their way to not activate my nano sim to use in my Nexus 6P

Did you get the USA version or international version? The International version does not work with VZW.
Just go online and have a chat with the online specialist. I had a nano SIM and all I did was chat with the online specialist and they activated it. I had it up and running within 5 minutes of talking to them.

Do you mind telling me about project Fi? I keep seeing it on the forums but am unsure of what it does and if it's something that enhances the performance of the 6p? Thanks
Project FI is Google's service, it uses Sprint and T-Mobile. You will need to look at it's coverage map to see if it will work for you. Sprint and T-Mobile have awful coverage as compared to Verizon and AT&T but if you never go to rural areas Project FI has a lot of advantages, for example it works overseas.

Did you happen to go into a Verizon store and have them activate it? I had to activate my 6P when I took my Nexus 6 for a swim. They gave me a new nano sim and activated it on the spot since I lost my old sim card when trying to salvage the other phone. The 6P should be whitelisted and shows up in their system as the Huawei H1511. I had much more difficulty trying to get a sim card form online representatives before I received 6P. Good luck.

When I received my 6P I just popped the sim card in and had no problems, didn't bother with VZW.

It won't enhance the performance of your phone, like the poster above mentioned it's Googles own wireless service which only works with the Nexus phones. It uses Sprint, T-Mobile or US Cellular and will automatically switch to the strongest signal. I live in a small town and have no problems at all with coverage. Of course your mileage may vary. The best thing, for me at least, is you only pay for the actual data you use. Last month I used over 30 gigs of data but because I'm on wifi nearly every where I go my bill was only $25 and change.

Ok there is just too much here not to speak up... first, I got my 6P while on AT&T, popped in the SIM card and it worked. I switched to Project Fi to save money, popped in the SIM card and it worked... unfortunately the reception here in middle of a very nice size city was terrible while driving around and taking calls in my vehicle. I stopped using Project Fi in less then a week after 2 dropped calls in 5 minutes in my vehicle in the middle of the cities. I switched to Verizon by going into a store and picked up a new SIM card, popped it in and it worked. Verizon has always worked really well around here for me.

So, there is my switching to Verizon story and my poor experience with Project Fi story all in one.

I periodically switch my Verizon nano sim back and forth between my 6P, LG V10, and Lumia Icon. Never been a problem. Have also used the same nano sim with a micro adapter in my old Note 4, and that works fine as well.

I have a 6p, a MXPE, an iPhone SE, and a Blackberry Classic, and I switch the SIM card between them with absolutely no problem at all, and the 6P was the phone I got last.
