Hello,

I just recently got the Samsung Galaxy S4 and I was on the iphone. However, I am still getting i-messages on my i-phone from other apple users. They are not going to my Galaxy. How do I stop that from happening? I turned off all the network connection on my old iphone then turned it off but I still am not getting my messages from my i-phone friends on my Galaxy. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I think either on iPhone or iTunes, in settings you need to disassociate your phone number with your apple id

haha i'm pretty familiar with this problem. It has something to do with iMessages being apple device to apple device rather than sms based.

I've seen this issue pop up before for former iPhone users. I can't recall completely, but you either need to do the above steps to remove your number from your Apple ID, *OR* some folks needed to call Verizon and them change something on their end...

Yes you will need to go into all of your other apple devices, including your Iphone and remove your number from your Apple ID, Imessage will work on your phone even if you do not have service and anyone that has you listed in their contacts as having a Iphone it will Imessage you instead of it going to your new phone. Had the same thing happen to me with my new phone.

I am going through this now and hate that I forgot to do this, before I traded my iPhone in.... Smh

Turn off iMessage BEFORE you switch from the dark side... :) It will eventually fix itself but unless you disassociate your number with iMessage it's very annoying. Apple should let users know this somehow...

hi! with problem of still receiving messages on the iphone try to reset all settings on the iphone, it will restore all factory options, but keep your accounts, apps, and media.

Also one step that you need to do that is not mentioned here is go to the apple site and login to view your current devices.. You need to disassociate the iPhone with your devices and it does something on apples end that stops the imessaging. I turned off imessage on my old iPhone and sold it to a friend. He took a few months before he got around to activating it... (he's not tech savvy). He activated it with a straight talk sim. (device was a AT&T iPhone 4s). Had no problems with my sms/mms on my galaxy s4 before he activated it. Once he activated it, it started to interfere with my sms/mms sending and receiving ability. Had to restart phone to send and it would only go for a few seconds before locking up again. Did a few Google searches and came up with the apple website solution. Didn't think it would do anything as it appears that it's just linked with the apple id for registration purposes but what happens when you delete the device from your apple id profile is that it disassociates your apple id with that device... Hope it helps. :)

I have a couple questions to add to this. I actually have an AT&T S4 but my best friend has a Verizon one and we are having some texting problems. Here's the situation.

I and my two best friends group text ALL the time. We all three previously had iPhones. (myself and another friend on AT&T, the third friend on Verizon). My Verizon friend got an s3, and we were all still able to group text. I got an s4 and can group text with anyone else I want to except my two best friends. If I send a group text to them, my AT&T friend with the iphone's replies come back in the group thread, but my Verizon friend with the s3 comes back individually. However, only individually on my phone. On my iphone friend (ATT), it comes through on the group. And if I reply to my Verizon s3 friend on the individual thread her reply came in on, it starts the individual chatting. In order for my ATT iphone friend to see my reply, I have go to back to the group thread (which makes sense). I have turned off my imessage on ALL my other apple devices. Changed my apple ID password. Gone to apple and unregistered my devices with Apple - ALL of them, then gone back and reregistered the devices I still have. I told my verizon s3 friend to do the same thing but she's not sure how to do it. Could that be the problem?

Also, a potentially unrelated question. When my verizon s3 friend does group texting, she has the tabs at the tbottom where she can switch out between individual and group texting with those specific contacts. She is doing the group option, because my iphone friend is receiving the messages. My actual question is, why don't I have those tabs on my phone? I've searched through setttings and see no way to turn those on automatically, and she said hers came like that by default. Any thoughts on that? Is that just a verizon vs att difference?

Hello I am an avid android samsung s4 user and I love it...my husband is wanting to try the new galaxy note 3, he is currently an iphone user. His one dilemma in switching is he sends a daily text out to 556 people. Will he still be able to to that on the galaxy note 3? Please help

That could be a difference between the Verizon and AT&T firmware. My Verizon S4 has those tabs like her Verizon S3. Maybe AT&T does something different with the texting app, or maybe Verizon is customizing the app in a way no other version of the device does?

If the native texting app doesn't do this, Handcent is an alternative (and free!) texting app that allows huge group-texts. The texts still come from your phone and your phone number, so the people receiving them will still see them coming from him without any extra work. It just does the SMS stuff.

I had an iPhone 4S and ran into this problem. As mentioned by others, you need to disable iMessage. Another thing I just recently ran into was my iCloud subscription. I had paid for the $20 upgrade and got an email that I would be charged at the end of the month if I didn't cancel. Since my gf still has an iPhone, we still had iTunes and iCloud on the computer. You have to go directly into the program to cancel the service. Why you can't just go into the Apple website and cancel is beyond me, other than Apple trying to make it as difficult as possible to leave.

So I just went from ip5 to G2 and I forgot to disable imessage before trading in phone. I dissociated my iTunes account with that device and still can't get messages. help!!

ooops sorry didnt read last post...I see you figured it out

I have an iPhone and a Galaxi, I have had the same problem. Even with my sim card in the Galaxy, my iPhone received all my messages. Switching off my iPhone did not help. No messages on Galaxi and after switching on my iPhone, messages arrived all together in the iPhone. You have to go on your IPhone settings/messages and you have to put your imessages off, but it is not enough. People try to text you and their phone refuses to send. You have also to put off your wifi going on settings/wifi. If you do both your Galaxi will start after 10 minutes to receive your new messages. When you want to use again your iPhone you have to do the opposite and the other opposite when you want to use the Galaxi. After you can used to that you need few seconds to do it. You have to do the same every time you switch your sim card from a phone to the other. It is not necessary to put off your Galaxy when you want to carry the iPhone. Only in the iPhone you have to put off imessages and wifi when you want to carry the Galaxy.

Open your messaging app and hit menu, settings and change MMS settings Group settings on. Should work and then you also should get the tabs "group" and "individual" in your messages screen. Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying! I'm still not sure what the deal is with the messaging, but we have pretty much pinpointed it to something with the verizon galaxy phones, and how they've tweaked the messaging app. I'm on AT&T, and the stock messaging doesn't switch to the tabbed texting once a group message is started - that's something verizon added. Group messaging works perfectly for me with everyone else. Thankfully, the new hangouts update actually resolved that issue and forces her message through in group when the stock text app does not. So I'm using hangouts and loving it!

Again, thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate it!
