Still having trouble rooting. HELP!

I just tried to install busybox using the link provided in post #5 but this is all i get when I open the file. I'm feeling a little defeated, maybe root just isn't for me.

You don't open the file, download it to your computer and simply drag and drop it onto your sd card. Did you look at DroidXcon's CWM thread to see how you use CWM to flash zip files? This su + busybox file is a zip file, leave it as is when you download it, place it on the base of your sd card, and follow the instructions in DroidXcon's thread to flash the file.

No, that doesn't mean you are rooted. After you flashed that file you needed to pull the usb cord, put the battery back in the phone, but don't boot it up, hold the volume up, volume down, and power buttons until the samsung logo flashes on the phone for the second time. As soon as you see the samsung logo for the second time, let go of all three buttons, you will boot directly into CWM. To use CWM follow the directions in this thread - http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...-clockworkmod-recovery-w-screen-captures.html
You should have already downloaded the zip file and placed it on your sd card. Follow the directions in post #5 of the above thread on flashing zip files in CWM. After you flash the su + busybox file in CWM you will be rooted.

So here's where I'm at now. I moved the zip files to my phone but for some reason it won't open them. Any suggestions?

The download was bad. Re-download and give it another go.

So here's where I'm stuck now. I've followed post #5 to the last step. I put all of the sip files on my sd card but I don't see su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip anywhere on there. Anyone know where I went wrong? I didn't extract the zip files, I simply dragged each file to my sd card.

No troll. post #5 says to click on su-2.3.6.1+busybox1.19.zip. mine says su-2.3.1-bin-signed.zip which leads me to believe that somethings missing

I removed it from my phone, redownloaded and reinstalled to my sd card but still nothing. I"ll try it again later. My wife's pretty pissed that I've been doing this since I got home from work yesterday morning.

Drag the whole zip not the contents. The zip is packed as a specialty install file.

I think that did it sheepdog!! Thanks all for your patients. The problem was that I was clicking on the file from the download tool bar on Windows Vista which would open the file automatically. What I did this time was right click and click to show in folder.... rebooting now

That did it. Now you will be rooted.
