Still having WiFi issues

I still need help with the WiFi connection on my wifes phone. My Evo connected fine, my wife's keeps trying to get an ip address and then fails and tries again over and over.

I went into BB and it was able to connect to their network in seconds, so the wifi hardware in the phone is ok.

i don't think there is anything really wrong with the router since my phone and several laptops have connected without issue. I restarted the router twice and that still has not helped.

I have written down a note to myself saying "change security to WPA". But I don't know why I wrote that and even if it has anything to do with this. OR more importantly if it does need to be done on her phone, how do I do it? I looked through my phone and don't see such a setting anywhere.

TIA

Double check the settings on the router. There may be a limit to the number of IP addresses it's giving out - this can be changed. If that's not the case, set your router's wireless to "open" and test it and see if you get the same result.

I have not checked the number of IP addresses on the router and I will check that as soon as I get home (and figure out how to).
But I am still trying to figure out if it could be a security setting or something on the phone itself.

Disconnect your phone from the wifi and see if it allows hers to do it in the absence of your phone...if so, then its a limit on the number of allowed IPs or connected devices

Tried that already. That's not it. Plus I know at one point we had 3 laptops connected at the same time. But I did try as hers being the only phone to connect immediately after a restart.

It gets stuck trying to get an ip address, so maybe it is that the router was set to only give out a certain number of them. It would be nice that instead of it just failing that it gave some sort of message as to why.

What kind of router? Do you know how to access it's web menu?

It is a microsoft router. I haven't touched it in years. It was setup, and working fine so I never had a need to do anything with it. I'm sure I can figure it out (with any luck). But I am still worried that it might be something else

Have you checked the routers log for clues? Also if the network is showing up in the list of "remembered" access points, try pressing down on it, selecting forget, and then try again.

Ian having the same exact issues have tried all the solutions listed and still no luck. Iam able to get the WiFi to connect but it still won't slow me to browse the web with any kind of reliability. This issue is very frustrating on a other wise excellent working evo.

It could be that the router is trying to assign the same ip adress to the different devices. try giving them static local ip adresses. 192.168.1._ _ is usually the standard unless you changed it.

How would I go about giving it a static ip address?
