Still no ICS...........

It's taking this long to get ICS, what do you guys think is the possibility of us getting Jellybean? I for one really really wants the new Google Voice Search.

Yea, it sucks. It's a real bummer to know that I didn't even get the update before the next version is announced already. Jelly Bean looks pretty awesome too, but I'd be thrilled to at least have ICS. I think I'll wait it out another week or so and then just go for a hacked update.

It should happen because this device is less than 18 months old. At last year's I/O, I believe Sammy agreed with Google's proposal that all Android devices should get updates that come out within 18 months of their release date.

The hardware on the S2 can easily take it, so we should get JB. Additionally, JB is more of an improvement on ICS than a wholesale update. So, it shouldn't be as hard to add it.

When, is another story. It should be on our phones by this Fall, but if history fortells the future, it might not be until next year.

That is why I will likely leave Sprint, when my contract is up, and buy an unlocked GSM Nexus branded phone. CDMA's are less prevelant and take longer to update.

The problem is Samsung. This is ridiculous, and why my next phone is probably the next Nexus.

I'm certainly not sure what the problem is at this point. I was surprised to see all of the other big US carriers get their update a couple weeks before Sprint. While I'm looking forward to some performance enhancements, I'm ultimately going to be disappointed by the ICS update. After using an Acer Iconia A200 tablet I kinda began to really crave the blue hues of AOSP. I don't get why everyone is skinning away from something that is so easy and nice on the eyes (obviously my opinion). I may be considering some custom roms in the near future.

I'm leaning toward skipping ICS all together.

Since reading that carrier "skins" can modify all the way down to the kernel, I can see why it takes so long to fix bugs on a new OS version. Manufacturer and carrier "skins" are holdovers from when Android was young and in my opinion are now an albatross. They probably have large staffs justifying their existence well after they are needed. I don't plan to ever use a non-standard release again.

I'm waiting for a stable JB flash-able.

Wake me up when its done :)

This is getting ridiculous.... The s3 is out now. They should be pushing that damn update

While i love my samsung products, i really hate how they let thierdevices fall to the wayside like this.

Well i got tired of waitng and snagged an S3 which is clearly a better choice and running ICS.

Also did this without any hopes of a jelly bean update so if it comes ill take it.

I think I'm done with Samsung at this point. They never updated my og galaxy tab. Still haven't updated my galaxy tab 10 in and now no update for the epic

I wish I was comfortable rooting... Else I would do it in a heartbeat. I'm having a lot of trouble getting my computer to recognize my phone...

Just bit the bullet and do the custom rom. Its very straight forward. I updated to CM9 alpha 6 on my bro's sg2et. Just google QBKing youtube video and follow it.

Where did you find that build?

CM9 RC1 does not support Epic 4G Touch.

They should just call sprint "the root and rom network", lol. I'm glad they forced me to do it. It's a lot of fun.

So, take a look at this ... Official Samsung-made ICS update... bricks the Galaxy Note in France

It's been known for a while now that the Galaxy Note suffers from the same EMMC firmware issue that our phone does, where issuing a wipe data command from recovery while on an ICS kernel can corrupt a portion of the EMMC chip and hard brick the device. The above article shows a circumstance where if the workaround is not implemented, simply doing a factory reset (which is essentially a data wipe) on a stock unrooted device can still hard brick it.

I feel fairly strongly now that the delay in our official ICS update has to do with this bug, and Sprint wanting to be absolutely certain that the updated firmware has the workaround implemented.

Thanks for the heads up on the JayWill. Personally, this is what I think. 1. You are SAMSUNG. You can afford to hire the best devs out there to make updates go smoother and quicker. 2. Sprint as a carrier should want to be up to date with their devices and want Samsung to produce these updates to ICS and JB as quick as possible. That's my take on it. Also JayWill I trust you when it comes to ROMs. How's CM9 Alpha? or should I go with AOKP. leaked builds aren't doing it for me anymore.
