Just happened to check notifications, it's right now downloading firmware, even though I rejected. I've found that even if I say OK the update fails. After all, missing the bloat, rooted on custom ROM so it will never be successful. But they keep on a tryin'

I don't know how it is on the rezound, but on the thunderbolt, the ota was successfully blocked by custom roms. Not sure if anything has changed though, or perhaps the dev didn't include the ota blocker in the rom

Without the bloatware, which was removed from CleanROM, the OTA will fail. That's the OTA blocker now.

Right, but on my thunderbolt, with a custom rom, the ota doesn't even try to install. It is like it is blocked completely

Yup, I'm on cleanRom 1.5.5. And Rockin' it!

I still suggest attempting to use DroidWall to disallow network access to whichever portion of the OS is trying to pull this update.

Not to laugh at others misfortunes but I'd love to see what poll results would be for the number of people who are now face palming for losing root for that crappy OTA.

Same here. Keeps trying and failing hehe. Im thinking about just going and rooting and installing the clean GB ROM that Scott has out there.

I'm face palming for not having a way to shut down the OTAs, period.
At like 3am my phone actually notified me that the software update couldn't continue because I ran out of cache space. I guess downloading the same 52.5MB file about 20 times was finally enough to make the OTA kill itself.

Hell, your post just made me facepalm. You've be kidding me, it's persistent enough to use up all your cache space. I don't recall any OTA, that didn't involve acomplete OS upgrade, antagonizing users in the manner this one is. Then again I haven't done a pushed OTA from Verizon , since Froyo>GB, effed up my DX1 & 2. I friggin hate those things, they're such a catch-22, it's absurd.

Personally, I am happy that I got the OTA. It greatly reduced the audio problem I was having and battery life seems better than before the OTA for me. I really wanted the ota since I got the phone for $ 50 on upgrade within 2 weeks of the phone's release back in November, my phone is still with the return period, so if there are any issues, i would rather have the option of returning the phone for a new retail box replacement, rather than the clnr from warranty replacements.

Sure, i lose temp root, to me no biggie, I almost never open the app drawer anyways so I am not really annoyed by the bloat, and it does not appear to affect battery life for me.

Heck, you know my story with the OTA. It didn't even give me a chance to have the phone for one hour. It auto-downloaded it, because I wasn't around to hit the "Reject" button. Then it bricked my connection forever after.

I was unaware of my cache space limits until this OTA. I thought my Droid was bad enough just having that little reminder on my notification bar that an update was available.
This one forces the download, even if the network is shut off. I mean, does the OTA even count toward data caps? If I didn't have unlimited, I would go thermonuclear on Verizon if they dared to charge me overages on data. If this OTA had the ability to become a human, it would point a gun to your head and force you to accept.
