I always throw nova on my new phones right away. Listening to the latest AC podcast about action launcher got me itching to try something else. Anybody here just stick with stock? I loaded it and it seems decent enough.

For what it's worth I always go stock. Never really saw the need for a launcher.
I like to customize as much as the next guy but I feel stock is good enough for me.

Tried the stock launcher for the first day. Only liked it with the dark theme, but the lack of gestures and the horizontal scrolling sent me running back to nova. Nova just offers so much more.

Another Nova Prime user here. I do like LG's stock launcher more than Samsung's, but like another poster stated, it doesn't have the flexibility of Nova.

I use the BlackBerry launcher. tried the stock launcher but found it lacking

I stick with stock for the most part, but I am always trying out new themes and icon packs/wallpapers/etc to try and spice up my experience. I sometimes feel like launchers are "too much" of a change at times (my own fault, because I get a little overwhelmed and divert back too prematurely); so tweaking a bunch of little things will often satisfy me for a while.

My Honor 8 has Theme Editor so I am constantly tweaking that haha. It's like some kind of addiction. I spent probably an hour fooling around it with it yesterday!

I have the V20 and the only reason I use Nova is because I got the paid version for 99 cents. Honestly I think all the extra customization is overkill but some people like that sort of thing. Not knocking it and I do use it, but stock is fine for most peoples needs. Its a matter of preference. Some people like those 3D launchers but they are mostly fluff and some are way over priced.

Im also using the stock launcher. I tried so many launchers but in need to choose customization x usabitily ill go with the stock. The gestures and the clean look makes me happy with it. Also if you want cleaner look with smallest icons you can change the size of them and download some themes to lg g6. I took me a while, but now im happy with it.

What's unclear to me is why haven't the manufacturers hired one if these developers to develop a better stock launcher.

yes. I agree. I was wondering why nova launcher or other famous launchers developers just dont get hired by the big manufacturs.

The major reason I use Nova Prime is that no matter what phone I have/buy, my experience is the same.

Used Stock, then Nova and Action, switched back to stock, now using Lawnchair . . the thing I liked about stock was that the nav button bar was transparent and you could see the whole screen, so far with every other launcher the bar is either solid black or solid white (unless I missed a setting somewhere to change that) . . minor point I know, but I didn't mind the stock launcher, but my tastes are simpler than most I guess . ..

Hm, I'm using Nova and it is transparent, at least on the home screens and app drawer.

I generally like to use a stock launcher to get the full functionality the manufacturer intended. The actual reason I switched to Nova was only the way the stock launcher makes the icons tinier with borders around them. I read there's a setting to change that but I have no such setting.

I've been using stock and it's fine but the urge to tweak has returned. Decided to throw $5 at action launcher since the dev was so cool on the podcast and I gotta say I'm digging it. I'm sure it's just the "new" factor but that folder/cover feature is really smart.

Near as I can figure... I think OEMs put far less thought into their launchers than we do. They take the core launcher source in the Android base code, modify it with a few things here and there and merge the final result.

Launchers don't really sell phones, and with so many good third party options out there, there isn't much of an incentive for an OEM to devote more R&D costs into theirs. And many stock launchers are little more than conduits to other services.

Samsung's launcher is a good example of being a conduit. Nova can't use most OEM widgets.
