Stock message app bug

Has anyone else experienced the stock messaging app icon saying you have messages and you don't. I have no new messages, actually cleared my inbox and restarted but still says 3. This has happened a few times and the number is always 3.

Check trash for any messages you deleted without opening them.

Nope, not the culprit, has to be a bug because it magically appears and disappears.

I've seen the bug where I have a text message but the icon doesn't appear in my notification bar. Thankfully I use Light Flow.
