Stock messaging app - auto save photos ?

I use the stock messaging app for sending and receiving texts and mms. Now, in the settings, I have it set to automatically save attachments that are sent to me - my daughter often sends photos, etc. With that setting, this isn't happening, so I go in and save them as I see them. Wondering why, with it set to auto save, it doesn't?

Note: I also sometimes use Pulse messaging app as I like to text from my tablet sometimes using the phone's number.
