When I first thought of this, I was thought it might be n00b question so was afraid to ask it, but can't find any answers that specifically deal with my question.

I have a Nexus S 4G running CM9 Nightlies and I tether with my Laptop and my TF201-T.
I did find a way to accomplish this thru the google code app, but what I want to know is this: If I'm rooted and running the stock image, can I use the built in tethering app without sprint adding the charge to my account. I know you can use it in any other ROM that leaves it in (though activating stock tethering in CM 7 or 9 killed my data connection-if you can answer that too, go for it:)).

Just a question and was wondering if anyone had an answer.
Thanks in advance for any answers I get.

When I was on 2.3.5 I could and it didn't charge me any extra but when I upgraded to 2.3.7 it wouldn't allow me to. I'm not sure about 4.0 because I'm on aokp and it allows me to.

Android has Portable Hotspot built in. I want to know if when rooted in stock rom, you can use it without sprint monitoring/charging. With apps like Barnicle or OG Tether, they use what's called an ad-hoc network or peer-to-peer network, which Android is not compatible with.
