Can anyone help me figure out why/how 3.91+0.716=9.14? I feel like my phone is miscalculating the storage, but I've restarted several times and it keeps doing this, which is problematic because it keeps saying it can't update apps, etc. due to storage limitations.

Thanks.

It looks like it's not showing several categories, such as Images, Videos, Audio, System, Other - and the sum of those is probably the difference but I'm not sure why it's not displaying them. You do have a 16 GB Moto X right?

Yes, 16 GB Moto X Pure Edition + 32 GB SD card. All that other stuff -- images, videos, audio, other -- shows up in the SD card storage info, as it should because that's where it's stored. Seems like there are some hidden files residing on my internal, or a miscalculation as I mentioned earlier. Whatever the case, it's frustrating.

I had this same problem - the Apps+cached data didn't even come close to the stated amount of storage used. I also had a 32g SD card installed, which I believe was the source of the problem. Every time I tried to move things to the SD card (which had at least 20g of space available), it would reject the transfer and add to the amount of internal storage I was using.

I wish I had a better ending for you, though. I had no idea why it was happening and I never figured it out. I resorted to doing a full factory reset and reformatting the SD card.

Thanks. I was already leaning toward a factory reset in the near future. Your post confirms it's probably my best bet.

I just came on to post the same thing.

But it's more than just a calculation, I have gotten low storage warnings when using camera, and the apps a re lagging due to low memory.

Even when plugged into my computer, Explorer still says the card has 51GB used. But when you select all the contents and view properties, it seems to match the categories added together

It's definitely not adding my SD card contents because I removed it.

I just got an advanced replacement phone (damaged USB port on old X) and things look much better, 21GB used. I just need to add back that 5GB of music.

I had something like this happen way back on my HTC Rezound. I think support told me factory reset was only solution

you might try editing your facebook and aol notifications. I gained alot of memory back once i removed the facebook app and used a browser instead..

My advice is to leave the adoptable storage feature alone and just use the traditional SD card approach. Adoptable storage is another Android feature in 6 that doesn't work as promised. It'll just give you grief and require a data reset to straighten out.

I have the same problem and I just factory reset my phone. Still doing the same thing....Someone PLEASE?!

I got a replacement Moto X, new phone is not having that problem yet. Transferred everything migrate would transfer.

I'd be curious to find if this could be caused by a rogue app? Since this just appears to be a relatively isolated problem, could one of you factory reset, but skip the google restore (temporarily)? I'd be interested to find out if there was a certain point in adding back apps, where this went awry...
