Storage Question

My apologies if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find this asked anywhere else. I noticed on the anandtech review that while the phone has 16GB of storage only 1.4GB are for app storage. Does this mean that motorola limits this? I'm coming from an iphone 3g and thought the storage would be the same. Currently I have 16GB for use on whatever I want, will this be different on the atrix 4g?

1.4GB should be more than enough to install apps from the Android Market. The apps are considerably smaller in size compared to iPhone apps. The biggest app size I've seen from Android is like 44mb.

I'm a little curious about this too. Why is it only 1.4 GB, which I agree is a lot, but why can't we use all of the memory? Is it the same reason as on a BlackBerry (security reasons)?

It seems excessive to limit it so much. But I think its not all Motorola: AT&T loads it with their own software garbage that, personally, should be allowed to be uninstalled without hacks, unlocking, etc.

But 1.4 GB is more than enough space for apps. Certainly better than my piece of crap Backflip's internal storage. Also keep in mind that its OS 2.2. To the best of my knowledge, you can install apps on the microSD.

You can still access the rest of the space and put music, pics, videos etc. The 1.4GB will be strictly for apps.

What about apps on Nvidia's tegra zone? I'm guessing those may end up being larger since they are games and that limit may end up being a big deal or it may not. My experience with android is zero and I'm going on what I have read, which may or may not be outdated info.

I thought only some apps could be installed on an SD card?

I'm sure the Tegra Zone apps will be probably equivalent in size to the iPhone games apps and be in the 100-200mb size. These types of apps would more than likely give you the choice to be installed on the secondary partition of your internal storage (the 11GB or so) or it will allow you to install on your micro SD card. I don't know for sure, but this is just an educated guess :)

SPECULATION:
I know that NVIDIA is helping with the coding of the apps in the Terga Zone and they will probably be more streamlined and efficient than apps in the market.

I really hopes so
Since the concept of Apps2SD is kinda missy for me , can't imagine how the SD card will look like in the PC (im a neat freak when it comes to the data in my PC , Phone & iPod) , mine is already missy without Apps2SD (Fro-Yo isn't out for the MileStone yet)
