store unused phone

The ideal battery level to store at is around 50%. It's a good idea to power the phone up every 2-3 months to see how the battery is doing, and charge up to 50% if needed.

Also, make sure you're storing the phone at room temperature, without risk of extreme temps. Most people do this without thinking about it, but just in case you were thinking of storing it in an uninsulated place like a garage or storage facility that isn't climate controlled.

Yep, my lithium power tools battery took a major hit storing them in a Florida garage. 85+ degrees not good.

That was 85+ degrees in the street. If the garage door was closed, it could have been 120 in there. 131 degrees (55°C) is the maximum recommended storage temperature.

I keep the garage door closed all the time. So yes, I guess the humidity and heat inside there would have been higher.
