Storm users are hurt by the droid

If you miss bbm come on over to gtalk its ok as well not as good as bbm in my book though. I loved my blackberry as many of us defectors have. With that said I have always been one to attack the blackberry os. I have never understood why blackberry could not switch there os and keep their solid messeging system. I'm sure it won't be easy but to get to the top again is never an easy task ask palm

Another thing to consider -
RIM does not give a hoot what the average CB wants. You'll find very few BB admins with a large user base complain about the OS, or the build quality. Thats because they have 500 people all using an 88xx for a phone, email, and corp messaging device. They do a damn good job at it, and the admin can lock them up tight to keep idjit users from fouling things up.

The storm (and storm2 IMO) was a mistake by RIM. Whatever marketing genius they hired to convince them to build a more consumer friendly device was a complete fool. The things RIM needs to keep as-is to cater to their real user base are the things that the average consumer hates. Consumers want a browser that sucks resources. Consumers want fart apps that access low level hardware to geotag and broadcast the location of their farting noises. Consumers want vibrate+ring+fancy lights+custom ringers for everyone on their contact list. If RIM opens up their OS model for this sort of thing, they've just pissed off every BB Admin alive. Therefore devs have a hard time writing apps that users think are good enough to buy. In turn, the dev's hop over to Apple because it's easy to program for their OS. It's a lose-lose situation for the consumer.

The Storm was a perfect device for the CFO who needs to show off his status in the company by having a kick-ass touchscreen blackberry, while the proles have old 8820's. If it had been marketed that way, it would have sold less, but the complaints would have been very few...admin can wipe and reload in an hour and give it back to CFO "like new".

IMO there's nothing wrong with RIM or their OS. Some users need to realize it can not fit their needs. This makes people very upset after they've spent 200 and tied into a 2 year contract for it.

rambling...i know lol. Blame the medication.

I use my Droid for placing orders in the Net. The iPhone will do it also but sadly the Storm will not render the page correctly for me to be able to use it. Now with my Droid, I can be almost completely mobile. My car is my office so the Droid on VZ will be wonderful.

i completely agree, and this is the reason it is very very hard for RIM to compete in the consumer space. blackberry's are still the best workhorse (email, calendar, task, and collaboration wise) phone in the business.

but i realized, i don't want to be looking at work stuff all day, and would rather loose a little in the work department to gain A LOT in the "life" department so to say.

the only way i see RIM really making an impact and "wowing" the average user is either a major overhaul of the OS (unlikely) or a forking of the OS to a consumer version (less secure, more flash) and a barebones business edition that can be rolled out via a BES admin or something to company devices. which seems more likely as they move forward in some way or another.

whichever way they go, i don't see them leaving the market anytime soon, businesses depend far too much on them, and they know it.

i actually swapped my storm 2 for a droid you just cant beat a physical qwerty keyboard with a touch screen in my opinion

I love what most of the people in this forum say, IN MY OPINION. Keyword = opinion. I am a proud Storm1 and 2 user. Yes RIM does have an antiquated OS, Yes it has other issues, Yes their phones aren't the best looking. Having said that, they are still very good phones. The iphone trumps it in many ways as does the Droid. The Droid trumps the iphone in many ways. The Storm trumps them both in its own ways. It is all personal taste. I read the review about the 5MP camera on the Droid and it was less than favorable as was the non-gsm capabilities of the phone. So in MY opinion, the Iphone has flaws, the Storm & Storm2 have flaws, and so does the new Droid. Just my OPINION, no facts here. Thank you.

things like phone preference are ALWAYS going to be opinion based. which is why all the device bashing on the internet in general annoys me. if something works for the user, why do they feel they have the need to make the other devices be crap in their eyes.

device A and device B can both co-exist in the marketplace. choice is a good thing for us. :)

I had the storm 2 returned it and got the droid. I hate the learning curve but the phone is awesome. Took some video of my game tonight and man this phone blows the storm out of the water. I am in no way a bb hater. I owned a couple. I needed a change though.

I suspect that you will see a lot of people still moving to the Droid. In my case, I purchased a Storm 1 a couple of days before it was released, and had to wait for the package to be shipped. I was in Verizon scoping the Droid out on opening day, but I have to wait until the 25th for my year to be up so that I don't have to pay full retail. I am hearing the same from a LOT of people. Verizon was normally quite easy with this in that they would waive the time as long as you were in your last month. Not this time. Oh well. I am spending my time reading the forums and letting all you guys work out the kinks. I can hardly wait!

My early upgrade was Janurary, and the bumped it up for me......I just mentioned the VIP thing, and I have 4 lines n pay almost 300bux a month.....I didn't have to talk to hard to get it done! I guess it just depends who u get. This was over the phone, not in a store though, if that makes a difference.

I think there is a certain segment of BB owners who are upset that Verizon has positioned the Droid as their flagship phone, and that the media largely agrees, that the Droid is the best phone VZW offers, and is a legitimate contender against the you-know-what phone. So, they direct their anger at the Droid for usurping the throne.

I came from BB and now have my Droid and am loving every minute. The BB did me good for a number of years but the Droid just beats it for what I need to do. BB still has it on email but everything else is Droid all the way.
